The Umbrella Academy Recap: 2.04 ‘The Majestic 12’

The Umbrella Academy 2.04 The Majestic 12

In the previous episode,  we learn of how Klaus gained his cult following and he is reunited with Allison, but he’s in Dallas to try to stop his love, Dave, from enlisting. Vanya takes down The Swedes when they attack her and Five finds her. Meanwhile, Diego and Lila sleep together and we later learn that she is The Handler’s daughter. Raymond and Allison’s sit-in at the ‘whites only’ diner causes chaos and sees Raymond beaten until Allison decides to use her ability, but this only causes Raymond to flee.

In 1993 London, a man and a woman are shot dead when The Handler walks in and she discovers a young Lila hidden in the walls. When then see a pre-teen Lila being trained by The Handler (Kate Walsh) and then as a teenager, followed by Lila (Ritu Arya) on a kill. Returning to the present, The Handler informs Lila that she is to protect Five. Lila brings up The Swedes, which have supposedly been sent by The Handler.

Luther (Tom Hopper) awakes to find Vanya (Ellen Page) and he tells her exactly what happened during the apocalypse when Mr. Ruby (John Kapelos) storms in. Angry about him losing the fight, Mr. Ruby says they’re through, which leaves Luther mad. Vanya leaves and plans to go back to the farm with Five (Aidan Gallagher) not happy about her knowing everything. Vanya then returns to the farm and Sissy (Marin Ireland) embraces her.

Klaus (Robert Sheehan) wakes up in Allison’s (Emmy Raver-Lampman) house and she’s panicking as Raymond (Yusuf Gatewood) didn’t come home. Later on at the diner, Klaus approaches Dave (Calem MacDonald) and he tries to convince Dave not to enlist. Dave’s Uncle Brian returns and refers to Klaus as ‘queer’ and promptly throws him from the seat. Klaus keeps trying to talk to Dave, all the while Brian yells at Dave to hit him and sadly, he does. The look shared between them is honestly heartbreaking. After being sober for three years, Klaus throws it out the window. In a drunken state, he returns to the mansion and his followers have arrived and are so excited The Holy Wanderer is there.

Allison finds that Raymond and the others are having a meeting without her. The couple head outside to talk and he thinks she was paid by the police and she tries to explain it all, but he wouldn’t believe her if she tried and now that’s the end of them.

Luther’s enjoying several plates of food when Allison walks towards him and she hugs him. He congratulates her and he’s happy she wasn’t alone, and she explains she never gave up on them. Luther then tells Allison that another apocalypse will be happening in seven days time.

Lila tends to Diego’s (David Castañeda) wound with Five saying he has his suspicions about who sent The Swedes, but first priority is finding their father. Apparently Sir Reginald has been invited to the Mexican Consulate by Hoyt Hillenkoetter and according to Elliott (Kevin Rankin), Hoyt is one of the Majestic 12, which is a secret committee or shadow government. The photo shows eleven men and it seems their father is likely the twelfth member.

Diego, Lila, and Five sneak into the Consulate to find Reginald, but Five doesn’t trust Lila at all. Five goes upstairs to search, while Diego and Lila dance before he spies his mother, Grace (Jordan Claire Robbins), with a very Texan accent. She’s there as ‘Reggie’s’ date, who’s in a quick meeting and the Swedes arrive as waiters for the event.

Vanya tells Sissy about everything that has happened and Sissy says they can hide together. Harlan overhears that Vanya might be leaving and he runs away. Searching for him, Vanya hears a splash and sees his toy in the water so she uses her powers to push the water away and rescues him from the bottom. She tries to resuscitate him and it seems it isn’t working until a red light fills him and brings him back, which somewhat looked reminiscent of when Reginald released an energy after his wife passed away. Afterwards, Vanya comforts Sissy, which leads to Sissy kissing Vanya.

Luther arrives at Elliott’s and Elliott soon realises Luther has had a bad day and offers him some nitrous. The pair inhale the gas and then are giggling and having a merry old time together.

Five pops into a cupboard where the Majestic 12 are having their meeting and they’re discussing JFK’s visit. However, Reginald (Colm Feore) overhears Five in the cupboard, but he escapes in time…only to land right in front of Otto and they start fighting. With his ability running low, Five can no longer jump and the Majestic 12 begin dispersing when Diego comes across the pair fighting. Axel and Oscar attack him when Lila sees the two being attacked and must choose to protect Five. She attacks Otto and Five pushes him out the window and she doesn’t help Diego. He’s left alone with Axel and manages to take him down.

At the end of the episode, Five goes after Reginald and yells out to him in Ancient Greek as he is quoting Homer, but he still leaves with Grace.
