We’re so happy to see Younger back and gracing our screens once again after the season 5 premiere last week, and it seems like the drama will be continuing for our characters, especially Liza as always!
On last week’s episode, Liza returned from Ireland to jump straight back into work, which involved a new series by Edward LL Moore, however, things took an not-so unexpected turn when women began to make allegations about LL Moore and the series adding a little #MeToo to the episode. Meanwhile, Pauline’s novel Marriage Vacation is almost here and after the allegations came out, her book took over a billboard in Times Square to replace Moore’s. Unfortunately, the drama didn’t stop there as Moore investigated those who made allegations against him and that included Liza. The information was taken directly to Charles, and now he knows who Liza really is.
BOY DRAMA
Charles continues to look over information about Liza, and he’s truly shocked by the revelation. He becomes interrupted by Pauline as the children are wondering why they are sleeping separately, which she also wants to know what the deal is with them. However, they are interrupted when Pauline receives a notification, which Liza receives too. Liza races to Josh’s apartment, where Kelsey and Lauren are still living, and it turns out that Reese Witherspoon has selected Marriage Vacation for her next book club pick, and that’s a huge deal because they usually go on to become bestsellers.
It also turns out that Josh is back, except he’s without Clare currently, although she’ll be on her way shortly enough. After a brief rundown about what DM’s are, Liza decides to send Reese and Instagram DM to say thanks and how Marriage Vacation will make a great movie with Reese as the star.
At Empirical, Charles meets with Diana to find out how she came across Liza, so naturally she turns to her assistant to find out. Liza reminds her that she ambushed Diana at a publishing event and things went from there. During this conversation, Charles is analysing everything about Liza, from her clothes to her shoes.
A BIG OPPORTUNITY
Charles reveals that the LL Moore drama has affected their financial situation greatly and the company and they will be a little behind when it comes to the payroll. In an attempt to focus on the positive, Kelsey informs him about the Marriage Vacation news as well as the sales being up, which he seems relieved to hear. Liza receives a notification and makes a minor stuff up as she says “slip into someone’s DM’s” instead of slide, in an attempt to explain what’s going on. She lets them all know that Reese replied and she would like Millennial to meet with her people, which causes quite a big squeal from Kelsey.
Kelsey, Liza, and Pauline meet with Reese’s production company ‘Hello Sunshine’ and they are interested in optioning the film rights and the three girls are incredibly excited over the news. After heading out to celebrate, Liza decides to head back in to speak with Kiara again and makes a suggestion of Hello Sunshine partnering with Millennial for exclusive access to future titles, and she seems incredibly interested.
A LITTLE ICE AND FIRE
Meanwhile, Charles talks to Empirical’s lawyer Bob about finding out that Liza has been lying, especially since he was in love with her. Charles mentions about firing her, but his lawyer says that she’s doing her job, he kissed her, and now he’s wanting to fire her because of her age? Not a good combination, otherwise, hello scandal! His lawyer recommends to avoid her when possible and just to keep pretending she’s 27.
Liza arrives back at Empirical and tries to talk to Charles but he doesn’t want to listen, that is, until he gets a call from Kiara. Reese is keen on partnering with Millennial and working with both Liza and Kelsey. However, Charles doesn’t jump at the opportunity and claims he needs to think about it, much to the disappointment of the girls.
That night, Lauren shows Kelsey, Maggie, and Liza a promo video for her new PR agency, Heller Good PR, but uh, it’s not great. Liza needs to hit the bathroom, but apparently it’s a no-go zone so Kelsey tells her to just head to the apartment. She finds Josh drinking and upset as he reveals that Clare isn’t coming at all now. It turns out their honeymoon wasn’t so great and Josh is incredibly broken up about it so Liza comforts him.
A LITTLE VAY-CAY
It’s book release party time and the theme is vacation! Lauren meets Diana and she compliments Diana while also offering her PR services. We most definitely need more of these two together! Kiara from Hello Sunshine is also at the party and she’s interested in Zane, but Kelsey tells her that he is “fully gay”.
At one point during the party and trying not to sour the mood, Diana asks Charles to give her some warning if the company goes under so she can make arrangements if need be. But at that, Charles decides he has some news that he is going to announce. Much to the surprise of everyone, he announces the news about Reese Witherspoon’s company and Millennial partnering and congratulates Kelsey and Liza, begrudgingly.
When Charles and Pauline return home, it seems the pair are about to have a moment until he tells her that he can’t pretend with another thing, which leaves her shocked and somewhat awkwardly having to head upstairs due to her living there.
As for tour bus that Maggie and Liza have been having trouble with due to the noise? Well it seems Maggie has it sorted. She’s now part of the tour and will get $50 each time and she can even throw juice on him once a week.
At the end of the episode, Liza confronts Charles about the deal with Reese’s company and he remains blunt with her about the deal.
Overall Thoughts?
Well, with Josh single once more and Charles upset with Liza, will she find herself in the arms of Josh once again? That being said, it was surprising to see Charles end the chance of him and Pauline being together as it could have gone the other way after him finding out about Liza. Although Josh is back, we definitely see Liza with a few different males in the season 5 trailer, so while I am #TeamJosh fan, we most likely won’t be seeing them together anytime soon.
One thing that I loved about this episode was the interaction between Lauren and Diana, and I truly hope they decide to use Lauren for some Empirical PR work as it would be perfect timing with LL Moore drama and possible lay-offs occurring at the company.
And don’t forget! If you’re interested in actually reading Marriage Vacation, you can find it on Amazon, Book Depository, and other good book retailers!
