Younger Recap: 5.11 ‘Fraudlein’

Younger 511 Fraudlein

Younger 511 Fraudlein

Younger‘s ‘Fraudlein’ episode had a bit of everything—all of the characters, a new location, a musical number, an opportunity, and a little steaminess of course!

During last week’s episode, Diana stood up to Enzo’s mother during dinner and now Enzo will be moving to Manhattan to make their relationship work. Josh’s tattoo parlour reopens with a new look and he thanks Liza for believing in him. Caitlin introduces her much older boyfriend, which resulted in an awkward brunch with Liza and Josh. After Caitlin’s boyfriend asks her to leave the wedding they were attending, Liza tells Caitlin the truth. This results in her confronting Charles and wanting to put their relationship on hold until Charles was ready to be open about it.

Welcome To Frankfurt

Liza and Charles have a run-in at Empirical and Kelsey thinks it’s quite amusing saying “it’s like watching two butlers in love” since they are so polite to one another. During a meeting, Charles informs Diana, Zane, Kelsey, and Liza that they’ll be heading to the Frankfurt Book Fair, much to the dismay of Diana. Upon arriving in Frankfurt, Cheryl (Martha Plimpton) is there and she wants Diana to hit the town with her like it’s 1999. She also says a few things to remind Liza that she knows everything, and Kelsey is worried.

During drinks with Kelsey and Diana, Liza has to cover herself quickly when she almost mentions she went to Europe 20 years ago for her honeymoon. Liza sees Charles alone and goes to speak to him. He informs her the trip is a Hail Mary pass as he hasn’t heard from Quinn and he has now booked meetings with international investors, but three have already cancelled. The pair say they miss one another and all they want to do is be together in that moment.

Time For Some Moisturiser

The next day at the Book Fair, Cheryl refers to Liza as ‘fraud-lein’ before Diana rushes over to tell the girls that Marriage Vacation and Capitol Letters are the choices for this year’s Book of The Fair. Cheryl taunts Diana in doing something with her that night.

Back in New York, Maggie and Malkie inform Josh and Lauren to come over for dinner. They talk about a variety of topics, including lesbians having babies, which Maggie isn’t interested in. However, it seems Malkie has tried to do IVF and they start joking about Josh being a sperm donor with a turkey baster. Unfortunately, it looks like their dinner may be another bust.

Kelsey and Liza host a press panel, and when a person asks how old Liza is, it causes some issues and Liza hates that Kelsey has to keep covering for her.

A Little Cabaret

That night, the Empirical and Millennial gang head to a cabaret show. Liza is approached by Cheryl who offers her a job with more money, especially since Empirical is struggling. Charles informs Liza there’s an interested investor before they stop talking to enjoy the show. The show? Diana and Cheryl performing Willkommen from Cabaret and it’s the best thing ever!

Charles leaves early, so Liza goes to see him in his hotel room. She tells him about the job opportunity and how it could help with their relationship, before it results a little steaminess for the pair. Meanwhile, Kelsey starts getting groped by a guy at the bar, and so Zane takes a swing at him before escorting Kelsey to her room except she’s lost her key. Liza heads out of Charles’ room only to find a very drunk Cheryl upstairs wanting to know about the job offer, and so Liza accepts. She becomes curious, and bangs on the door Liza came out of and finds a shirtless Charles.

Waking Up In Germany

A dishevelled Kelsey worries about waking up in Zane’s room and she’s worried what they did together, but Zane says she passed out straight away. Zane tells her he finally heard back from an agent with an unsigned author who has written about the Sicilian Mafia, and heads off for a meeting with him. However, it turns out the guy he punched is the agent…

Liza and Kelsey are leaving, and Liza decides to Kelsey about the job offer because she’s over Kelsey lying to cover Liza’s own lies, which causes Kelsey to break down.

Overall Thoughts?

You can tell the finale is definitely around the corner with all of these changes rapidly approaching us. While it wasn’t the best episode of the season, the musical number between Cheryl and Diana was the high point for me personally because who doesn’t love Cabaret or seeing a new side of Diana!? If Liza does wind up leaving Empirical, it will definitely be a big change for the series. However, it could possibly change the series too much. A theory for the season five finale could be that Charles will step down and Diana assume his role. Could Liza take up Diana’s role and the truth revealed about her? There are so many possibilities and thankfully, the episode isn’t too far away!
