The Umbrella Academy Recap: 2.06 ‘A Light Supper’

The Umbrella Academy 2.06 A Light Supper

In the previous episode,  we see a brief history of how Pogo came to be in Reginald’s possession and the siblings all reunite for a family meeting, which ends somewhat badly of course. Vanya, Klaus, and Allison get drunk and spend some quality time together and decide to tell the truth: Klaus will speak with his followers, Vanya will tell Sissy she loves her, and Allison will tell Raymond about everything. Unfortunately for Vanya, Sissy says they can’t have that life, so Vanya leaves. As for Diego and Luther, they receive an invite to a ‘light supper’ with their father. Meanwhile, Lila and The Handler give a ‘mission’ to the Swedes to target Diego, and it leads to Oscar being killed. Lila also gets Five’s attention and they have a brief fight before The Handler comes to greet him.

A Deal Is Offered

The episode begins with a flashback to when Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) first arrived in Dallas 1961 and she’s kicked out of a ‘whites only diner’ and then chased by three men. After running into the hair salon, the women raise their scissors and hair wands to protect her. Still unable to speak, we next see Allison working at the salon and in another scene, a meeting begins and she first sees Raymond (Yusuf Gatewood). At Christmas time, Ray sticks around and Allison gives him some notes about his pamphlets and he invites her to dinner.

Back in the present, Raymond asks Allison again about the Black President in the future, followed by him asking to prove her powers. The pair head to a suit store and when they’re told coloured people can’t try on the merchandise, she uses her abilities which leads to a fashion montage to the sound of Sam & Dave’s ‘Hold On, I’m Comin’. He exits looking very dapper and Allison also dons a new dress when they walk past the diner and she decides to go in. She uses her powers to get a coffee, but she keeps telling him to pour until he’s left with a significant burn and they rush out. At home, Raymond wonders if Allison used her powers on him and discovers an invitation from her father.

As for Five (Aidan Gallagher), he learns Lila (Ritu Arya) is The Handler’s (Kate Walsh) daughter and he’s soon offered a deal—kill the Commission’s board members  so she can be in charge and she’ll help get him and his siblings back to 2019. She knows where and when the board will be meeting, but he’s pursuing other options first.

A Heartbroken Klaus

Klaus (Robert Sheehan) wants to tell his cult that the world is going to end, but Ben (Justin H. Min) thinks it is a bad idea. So instead, Klaus tries to tell them that he’s a fraud, but Keechie (Dov Tiefenbach) quotes his ‘scripture’—”as long as I know how to love, I know I’ll stay alive”. This leads to all of the members saying they are also frauds.

Later on, Klaus taunts Ben who then charges and Ben goes into Klaus’s body briefly. Just after this, Dave (Calem MacDonald) turns up to apologise to him. Klaus continues to say things he knows about Dave to convince him not to enlist, and shows him his dog tags. However, Dave tells him that he’s already enlisted since he’s uncle made him enlist after their incident. After Dave leaves, Klaus receives the invitation from his father.

Meanwhile, The Handler and Lila are enjoying a game of bingo and Lila wants to know why she can’t kill the Board, along with asking about Diego and denying she’s fallen for him. Later on, the Swedes (Kris Holden-Ried and Jason Bryden) are in the sauna when The Handler walks in. Speaking in Swedish, she says she’ll give them the location of Diego so they can get their revenge as she’s not happy about Lila and Diego.

A Family Dinner

Diego (David Castañeda) and Vanya (Ellen Page) want to go to the ‘light supper’ with their father, but Luther (Tom Hopper) doesn’t want to and he informs her of why she should hate Reginald.

However, all of siblings arrive at their father’s ‘light supper’ when Reginald (Colm Feore) storms in demanding questions, so Five begins explaining who they are and their abilities. Reginald wants proof, so Diego throws a knife, Five jumps, Allison makes Diego punch himself in the face, and Vanya makes the fruit platter explode.

Diego tries to tell Reginald about the President, and Reginald’s words about his ‘delusions’ only hurt Diego. Next thing we know, Ben jumps into Klaus’s body and manages to gasp out ‘I’m Ben’ when Reginald decides he has had enough. Luther rips open his shirt to show his ape body, and Reginald asks for a private word with Five. The pair speak briefly of Five quoting Homer, followed by Five asking for some time travel advice and Reginald suggests trying seconds and working his way up.

Diego finds Grace (Jordan Claire Robbins) in a car outside and shows her the photograph of Reginald in hopes she can help stop it, while Sissy (Marin Ireland) turns up with Reginald’s invite. Sissy clearly wants to be with Vanya, but they can’t have that life until Vanya says they can run away and she agrees. However, Carl (Stephen Bogaert) lingers in the distance and watches Vanya and Sissy in the car kissing.

Elliott (Kevin Rankin) returns home and finds a cat inside when Axel and Oscar attack him and they begin extracting his teeth in order to find where Diego is. When Diego and Luther arrive back at Elliott’s, they find him heavily wounded and dead in the dental chair. Diego then looks over the balcony to find ‘Öga for Öga’ (eye for an eye) written in blood.

At the end of the episode, Five goes to The Handler and agrees to her deal and she gives him the details of the meeting: Wisconsin, 1982.
