In the previous episode, it’s revealed The Handler is still alive, but she has been demoted at The Commission, while Five discovers a tape given to him by Hazel and upon watching it with Diego, they see their father, Sir Reginald Hargreeves. As for our other characters, Vanya and Luther reunite and he apologises; Raymond is arrested and unknowingly meets Klaus in jail; the triplet assassins work for The Commission; and Diego chases and fights a younger version of his father, and ends up with a knife to the stomach.
The Story of Klaus
It’s 1960 and Klaus (Robert Sheehan) is being kicked out of a diner when a woman wearing Chanel shoes and a big diamond ring helps him. Next thing we know, Klaus is levitating in front of a group of people…but really it’s just Ben (Justin H. Min) holding him in the air, Dirty Dancing-style. Jump forward to 1961 in Baja, Mexico, Klaus has gone full hippie, whilst Ben can be seen crushing on a girl. The following year, Klaus is in Varanasi, India, and being adorned with flowers and garlands. Then, in 1963 San Francisco, Klaus isn’t loving the adoring cult-like members or ‘Destiny’s Children’.
Back to the present, Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) arrives at Klaus’s mansion and finds him in the pool, which she promptly gets into and hugs him. He briefly mentions his ‘alternative spiritual community’, whilst Allison has been working as a civil rights organiser and he’s shocked to learn she’s married. Allison also says she hasn’t used her powers since, especially given she wasn’t able to speak for a year.
Later on, Klaus visits a hardware store and he finds a young Dave (Calem MacDonald), whom is the soldier he fell for when he went back in time during season one. He tells Ben that Dave enlisted the same day that JFK was murdered and hopes to stop him.
Finding Vanya
Vanya (Ellen Page) stops for a milkman, but it’s actually Oscar (Tom Sinclair) and he’s approaching with a gun. She sees Axel (Kris Holden-Ried) and Otto (Jason Bryden) and escapes into a cornfield. Nothing ever good happens in a cornfield! With bullets coming at all angles, Vanya’s powers flare and she knocks out all three of them.
At Elliot’s, Lila (Ritu Arya) followed Diego (David Castañeda) and Five (Aidan Gallagher), and now she’s tending to his wound. Elliott (Kevin Rankin) picked up an atmospheric radar, which blares as Five knew it would help him find Vanya if she used her powers. He then finds Vanya alone in the cornfield.
Five informs Vanya briefly about her past as well as the impending apocalypse. Meanwhile, Harlan (Justin Paul Kelly) is listening to a record when it stops working and he becomes distressed, which leads him to throwing several records and biting Sissy (Marin Ireland) on the arm. Vanya then calls to explain what happened, but Five says they need to go and find the others.
Meanwhile, Diego tries to go find his father, but Lila convinces him to stay and tells him of finding her parents murdered during a home invasion at the age of four. Diego then kisses her, but he’s promptly slapped by Lila until she returns the kiss and the clothes come off.
Sad Little Luther
Luther (Tom Hopper) goes for a run and thinks he sees Allison, which causes him to trip, but it was another woman. When he returns to the Carousel Club, Mr. Ruby (John Kapelos) is sewing a costume and Luther asks if he can get some help to find Allison.
At the salon, Allison meets with everyone about the sit-in to decide whether it goes ahead without Raymond. In the end after voting, she wins and it will be going ahead. Meanwhile, at the police station, an officer becomes spooked by a flying sandwich and the message ‘free Chestnut or die’ appears on a typewriter, all thanks to Ben. Raymond Chestnut (Yusuf Gatewood) is then released and is confused to meet his brother-in-law that he’s never heard of.
Back at the club, Luther is given Allison’s home address and both him and Raymond arrive at the same time where he learns Allison is married. Sitting at their dining table, Luther begins eating the chocolate he brought and looks incredibly sad.
We also see that The Handler (Kate Walsh) is now in the 1960’s and she whispers something to a young boy in a fish shop, which causes him to wet himself and we later see her in a bathtub, looking over some files, which contains a photo of Five.
Taking A Stand
Allison arrives at the ‘whites only’ diner and promptly takes her seat, while the others follow and demand to be served. The sit-in gradually escalates and a man is seen pouring salt on them when Raymond arrives to sit next to Allison. Raymond brings up Klaus, followed by mentioning Luther. Their conversation is cut short when a waiter pushes coffee across the bench and it spills into Allison’s lap, which causes her to jump and run into a police officer. The officers beat Raymond and begin arresting the others. Allison runs after Raymond who is still being beaten and she uses her ability in front of him to make the officer go away, but Raymond is terrified of her. Klaus then arrives and takes her away from the chaos.
As for Luther, he is back in the ring when Five and Vanya arrive, and at the same time, Luther gets the nod from Mr. Ruby to win the fight. However, he becomes distracted by thoughts of Allison and lets his opponent win. Knocked to the ground, Luther stares at the moon.
After sleeping together, Lila sneaks out and visits the same pet store that The Handler visited earlier in the episode and finds a set of keys in the fish tank. Upon entering the hotel room, it’s revealed The Handler is Lila’s mother.
