Everyone who absolutely devoured No Exit like I did, (thanks to a late-night message from my best friend that basically said, “Drop everything and read this!”) should consider Taylor Adams’s newest thriller, Hairpin Bridge, an absolute must read! Though everything about this story is different, the edge-of-your-seat excitement and spine-tingling scares are still ever-present in Adams’s writing.

Lena Nguyen simply can not accept the official version of events which tell her that her twin sister committed suicide by jumping off of a bridge in the middle of nowhere in Montana. Though occasionally doubting herself and wondering how well she really knew her sister, Lena knows in her gut that there is more to the story, and that the story does not end in suicide. She decides to try to retrace some of her sisters last movements and meets with the highway patrolman that discovered her sister’s body. But every question that Lena seeks answers for only seems to lead to more questions.

Within the story, we follow two separate timelines. We follow what Lena is learning (and trying to learn), but we also follow parts of her sister Cambry’s timeline, so there are occasions where we are reading about Lena being told one thing, when we already know that it is not the truth about what happened. These discrepancies increase the tension dramatically as Adams throws twists and turns at the reader over and over again.

For readers who need to like the main character in order to like a book, it would be pretty difficult to find much about Lena that you wouldn’t like. Nobody’s perfect, but she is definitely a heroine you can get behind.

Apart from Lena, however, Adams has filled this thriller with gritty characters and grim settings that are not for the faint of heart. The story gets dark on more than one occasion, as fans of Adams’s work will recognise.

Short chapters (that almost always end in a cliffhanger) keep this a fast paced read and make it incredibly difficult to put down. In fact, when reading reviews, one of the most common comments is, “I read this in one sitting!”

Fans of dark and twisty stories, creepy characters, and having the hair on the back of your neck stand on end will find a lot to love about Hairpin Bridge.

Hairpin Bridge is available from Amazon, Book Depository, and other good book retailers, like your local bookstore, as of June 15th 2021.

Synopsis | Goodreads

From the author of the “full-throttle thriller” (A. J. Finn) No Exit—a riveting new psychological page-turner featuring a fierce and unforgettable heroine.

Three months ago, Lena Nguyen’s estranged twin sister, Cambry, drove to a remote bridge sixty miles outside of Missoula, Montana, and jumped two hundred feet to her death. At least, that is the official police version.

But Lena isn’t buying it.

Now she’s come to that very bridge, driving her dead twin’s car and armed with a cassette recorder, determined to find out what really happened by interviewing the highway patrolman who allegedly discovered her sister’s body.

Corporal Raymond Raycevic has agreed to meet Lena at the scene. He is sympathetic, forthright, and professional. But his story doesn’t seem to add up. For one thing, he stopped Cambry for speeding a full hour before she supposedly leapt to her death. Then there are the sixteen attempted 911 calls from her cell phone, made in what was unfortunately a dead zone.

But perhaps most troubling of all, the state trooper is referred to by name in Cambry’s final enigmatic text to her sister: Please Forgive Me. I couldn’t live with it. Hopefully you can, Officer Raycevic.

Lena will do anything to uncover the truth. But as her twin’s final hours come into focus, Lena’s search turns into a harrowing, tooth-and-nail fight for her own survival—one that will test everything she thought she knew about her sister and herself…
