The first trailer for DC’s Titans is here marking the start of San Diego Comic Con 2018, and Robin shows little love for the infamous Batman.

In the trailer, we see Dick Grayson, also known as Robin (Brenton Thwaites), and Raven (Teagan Croft) when we see a dreamlike flashback to the tragic deaths of Grayson’s parents. From there, Grayson struggles with being Robin, but still manages to violently go head to head with some criminals in a way that looks much more Batman than Boy Wonder.

There are also brief glimpses of Starfire (Anna Diop) displaying her powers, and almost seeing Beast Boy (Ryan Potter) show his transformation abilities, along with Dove (Minka Kelly) who is also present.

The new series is most definitely a gritty reimagining of DC’s Teen Titans, which is clear in the trailer and images released so far. From the dark feel of the trailer, to the strongly worded message spoken by Robin, Titans appears to be a little different to other superhero television series currently on air. The series is produced by Greg Berlanti, who has also brought us The Flash, Supergirl, and Arrow, but it’s heading in a different direction with the swearing, blood, and tone, which makes it appear as though it’s trying to appeal to a more mature audience than other DC series.

Titans will be the first original series for DC Entertainment’s new streaming service, DC Universe. DC also revealed the subscription cost for DC Universe. Annual subscriptions to the service, which also includes digital comics, library content, and a social-media element, will be available for $74.99. Monthly subscriptions will be available for $7.99. Preorders for the new app have now opened.

The new series is set to premiere this year, with two other WBTV live-action series, Doom Patrol and Swamp Thing, slated to debut in 2019. Also scheduled to premiere next year on DC Universe are Harley Quinn and the third season of Young Justice, both from Warner Bros. Animation.

The series stars Brenton Thwaites (The Giver), Teagan Croft (Home and Away), Anna Diop (24: Legacy), Lindsey Gort (The Carrie Diaries), Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights), Ryan Potter (Big Hero 6), Alan Ritchson (Smallville), and Curran Walters (20th Century Women).
