This adorable handbook is perfect for anyone who’s got a young one (or even a young person at heart) that wants to learn about becoming a witch. This book has all the basics you need with beautifully illustrated pages and it sets a very sweet tone, while easily explaining the concepts of making spells, and even outlines how to bring good things into your life, and cast away the bad. I truly enjoyed this sweet book. It’s encouraging and will help the novice witch bring some light and clarity into their life (if that’s what they seek).

If you’re looking for your very basic handbook to becoming a junior witch, then this is the perfect book to start with. I found each page enlightening, and as I would be considered a person who’s never practiced witchcraft..this book was very simple to follow along to. It includes guides and explanations to the significance of the items used in witchcraft, as well as what the use of herbs, stones, and crystals have in making spells and more. The clean layout of this book makes everything easy to find, and even go back to. The colour scheme is full of pastels and calming colours. It felt like an exercise in relaxation to read this book.

To be frank, I’m not particularly interested in witchcraft. On the other hand, this handbook truly explains things in a way that makes sense to the reader. A lot of it is about introspection and looking deep within yourself to find the deeper meaning. It’s broken down into sections called: Friends, Fulfilment, and Family. Within those sections, the handbook has spells on: Creating, Healing, and Empowerment. These aren’t necessarily spells that will send you that answer you need on the spot. They’re designed to help you think about the reasoning behind why you’re practicing the spell you’re working.

Something fun that I wasn’t expecting to find in this handbook were fun little activities like practicing writing witch-code using runes. There’s a tea ritual that I’m really interested in because it’s very similar to a Japanese tea ceremony. The handbook talks a lot about how similar the rituals are, but also how they invite relaxation among a host and friends.

The end of the book has some celebration rituals for the novice witch to be aware of, and what is celebrated during the holiday. They all seem like rituals that honour life, and invite peace and fun. It’s not too serious or scary, and it’s perfect for a young person interested in witchcraft and spells. I recommend you add this to your TBR if you’re interested, because this isn’t only for young kids. I think those who want to try practicing witchcraft for the first time, would find this guide very enlightening.

I’m rating this book a 10/10. There’s nothing better than finding something that is so light and relaxing to read. This book doesn’t pressure or make judgements about anything, and explains concepts of witchcraft very well. On top of that, this book will look just lovely sitting on a shelf, or on a coffee table. I’m definitely obsessed with the colour scheme and illustrations used in the book.

The Junior Witch’s Handbook is available from Amazon, Book Depository, and other good book retailers, like your local bookstore, as of June 2nd 2020!
