Riverdale Recap: 2.16 ‘Primary Colors’

Riverdale Recap 2.16 Primary Colors

Last week’s episode of Riverdale was full of revelations as we learned about Clifford Blossom’s twin brother, the Lodge’s plan for Riverdale was revealed and ultimately, Hermione Lodge decided to run for mayor.

After people finding out if they had Blossom blood to get their hands on some Blossom money, Betty submitted Chic’s and it turns, he isn’t one of them. Alice then admits that Hal isn’t Chic’s father, although she won’t say who but claims he isn’t FP’s—he was everyone’s guess, but I think she’s lying. Betty interrupts Chic and Kevin hanging out, and it turns out Kevin filled Chic in on about how they tried to catfish him. That night, Betty wakes him up with a lighter close to his face and threatens him because she brings “bad mend down”.

Chic doesn’t seem to find Betty all that intimidating and deices to show Alice her daughter’s wig and guesses she wears it during sex. This winds up with Betty and Alice having a little “talk” and Alice asking Betty to give Chic a chance. She asks for a truce with Chic and reminds him that she can tell the police about how he murdered someone. However, he points out he never touched the body, car or phone and it’d be her DNA they would find. This winds up with Betty asking to stay with Jughead because she can’t do it anymore.

Hal interviews Hermione about her decision to run for mayor, and she invites their family friend, Andy Cohen, for an interview also.

At Riverdale High, Reggie is running for student body president while Ethel Muggs throws a milkshake in Veronica’s face Glee-style. This causes Veronica to want to run, especially after she winds up punching Reggie in the face for saying her father will be the first inmate at his new prison. Veronica then asks Betty to be her vice president and she agrees.

Cheryl decides to invite Josie, Betty, Veronica and Toni over for a sleepover as she’s scared to be alone in the house with her mother and uncle. In all honesty, she just wanted to be alone with Toni, but her mother would never allow it. The pair almost kiss, but then they hear Nana Rose fall down the stairs. It’s revealed she has tannis root in her system, which leads to Cheryl believing that her mother and uncle paralysed her.

Towards the end of the episode, Cheryl finds herself in the car with her mother, who is claiming Cheryl has lost her mind. Penelope takes Cheryl to the Sisters of Quiet Mercy for a little conversion therapy.

Hiram suddenly moves up his timeline and wants to tear down Southside High by the end of the week, so Jughead convinces some Serpents to join him in chaining themselves to the school in addition to Jughead’s current hunger strike. Hiram calls on Archie for help, and when Archie’s mother comes by, she’s not pleased to see her son aligning himself with the Lodge’s and disrespecting his own father.

In exchange for helping with Jughead, Archie asks Hiram to let his father out of his contract with Lodge Industries. He agrees, however, Archie’s mother is going to stay and she’s decided to help Fred with another project—running for mayor!

After Veronica decides to run for class president, she sets a game plan to win male with kisses and cupcakes. She says she’ll win the female votes by getting Josie to endorse her. However, Veronica doesn’t realise that Josie now hates her as she gives Ethel information and she creates a flyer revealing all of Veronica’s secrets—including her knowledge of the prison.

Once Betty finds out, she ditches Veronica’s campaign and goes to Jughead. Jughead’s plan to chain himself to the school doesn’t work out quite as well as he had hoped, but he does get the public’s awareness when Archie and the wrestling team physically removes him from the school. This then causes Jughead to decide to run for school president and Betty runs as his co-president.

Final Thoughts?

This episode was crazy! Not only is everyone running for some kind of office or even running from someone, but Cheryl was sent off to the Sisters of Quiet Mercy because she likes girls. Wow.
