Riverdale Recap: 2.15 ‘There Will Be Blood’

Riverdale There Will Be Blood

The last episode of Riverdale saw Archie, Jughead, Veronica and Betty take a trip to a private cabin, along with Cheryl and Toni becoming friends and Chic being his usual creepy self.

‘There Will Be Blood’ kicks off with Jughead viewing his murder board in an attempt to piece together Hiram’s plan for the town. Across town, the Lodge family invite Fred and Archie to dinner to discuss Fred running for mayor, which he has always dreamt about although it was particularly noticeable before this episode. One of his dreams for Riverdale was to create a monorail, let’s make Riverdale Disneyland! Archie doesn’t like this plan as he doesn’t want his dad to be tied up with the Lodge’s more than he already is.

Archie then tries to do everything in his power to stop his dad from running, which leads to him wanting to take Hiram down. He informs Jughead about Hiram buying Pop’s, so Jughead seeks confirmation except Pop doesn’t want Jughead to publish it until “his mother has passed”.

Meanwhile, Hal shows up at the Cooper house and asks for a divorce, which he wants as a soon as possible and if Alice moves quickly, she will get half the money he made selling the Riverdale Register to Hiram.

Jughead receives a call from and heads to the Riverdale Bus Terminal and it turns out to be Smithers, the Lodge’s old butler. He tells Jughead that he used to coordinate transportation to and from Shankshaw Prison as apparently Hiram has been talking to the warden. FP has an inside man, and they learn the truth about Hiram’s plan.

Meanwhile, Clifford Blossom left a secret will that will be read publicly, so Toni agrees to accompany Cheryl to the reading for emotional support. Hal, Betty and Polly also attend, and yes, Polly is back with her twins. According to the will, Thistle House remains with Roseanne Blossom while Penelope gets Thornhill, or a pile of ashes that is. Everything else will be divided in half with half going to Cheryl and Jason (so just Cheryl) and the other half goes to anyone who can prove with medical authentication that they have even one drop of Blossom blood.

Alice storms in and screams about how Hal wanted the divorce so she wouldn’t get any of the Blossom money, so she’s removed just before Cheryl hits the podium for a speech about “no more blood, no more madness, no more horror” in Riverdale.

Right then, someone walks in looking just like Clifford Blossom causing Cheryl to faint. When she wakes, she is introduced to Claudius, Clifford’s twin. Claudius was primed to inherit the Blossom empire until at the age of 14, Clifford pointed a gun at him and told him of the Blossom curse where one twin usually dies at the hand of the other. Clifford ‘spared’ Claudius, so Claudius left and now, Claudius will be staying with the Blossoms for the time being.

Betty spends time with Polly’s twins and tries to figure out why Chic won’t get tested for Blossom blood, especially if there’s money involved. He says that “needles trigger me”, but Betty gets Kevin to talk to him over webcam, but it doesn’t go to plan. Instead, she heads into Chic’s bathroom to get some DNA.

After Chic catches her in his bathroom, Chic tells her that their lives would be better without Polly, and luckily, Polly also finds her brother strange. It seems Chic may not be who he says he is as when the results arrive, she confronts him about it.

Back to the mayoral race, Archie uses Mrs McCoy to try to get Fred to stop running, but it doesn’t change his mind. However, this all changes when Hiram finds out about Jughead’s visit to the prison and decides to reveal his plans to Fred and Archie before it gets out. Hiram also finds out that Jughead knows about Pop, which Veronica takes the blame for instead of Archie.

Hiram wants to turn Southside High into a private, for-profit prison, which means all the housing they are building will be homes to the new employees. Unfortunately, Fred won’t have it and refuses to run for mayor. However, Archie decides to stay behind and perform some kind of blood oath ritual with Hiram to pledge his loyalty. Naturally this was a little over the top, but when is not in Riverdale? As for the next mayor of Riverdale, Hermione decides to run.

As for Claudius, he is staying around and Cheryl overhears him talking to Penelope saying “Nana, then Cheryl” in an attempt to get their house in order. After that, they’ll be getting their revenge on the Lodge’s.

Final Thoughts?

This episode was all kinds of weird. Not only do we not know who Chic really is, but we also have a new Blossom to worry about. I think I can speak for all Riverdale fans by saying I am mentally and physically exhausted!
