Lovers of multiple point-of-view stories should not miss award-winning author J.T. Ellison’s newest thriller, It’s One of Us. A murder mystery told through the eyes of a husband, a wife, the detectives, and multiple other characters, the story keeps up a ferocious pace as the reader practically gets a 360-degree view of everything happening.

An incredible combination of domestic thriller and psychological suspense, It’s One of Us examines truth, lies, and secrets from the individual level, between partners in a couple, as well as what we are willing to admit to the rest of the world. Ellison’s books are known to be binge reads and It’s One of Us is an excellent example of exactly why.

When the body of a missing woman is recovered and detectives begin to look into her murder, this investigation threatens to rip apart a couple who barely even knew the woman. More secrets come to light with every twist and turn and the reader will hardly be able to put the book down!

Fans of Alice Feeney should definitely enjoy It’s One of Us (as well as Ellison’s other best sellers) as there is a similarity in the way they tell stories through shifting points of view. Though I can’t put my finger on exactly why, I was at times also reminded of some of my favourite Linwood Barclay thrillers, so I would also highly recommend Ellison to fans of his writing.

While I sometimes bristle at trigger warnings, it should be noted that pregnancy loss is a major element throughout this story, and is sometimes rather graphically depicted. Someone highly sensitive to that topic should tread carefully. There is a note about discussions of infertility, but this is part of the Author’s Note at the end of the book, perhaps coming too late for readers not prepared for this topic.

It’s One of Us is available from Amazon, Book Depository, and other good book retailers, like your local bookstore.

Synopsis | Goodreads

Everybody lies. Even the ones you think you know best of all . . .

Olivia Bender designs exquisite home interiors that satisfy the most demanding clients. But her own deepest desire can’t be fulfilled by marble counters or the perfect rug. She desperately  wants to be a mother. Fertility treatments and IVF keep failing. And just when she feels she’s at her lowest point, the police deliver shocking news to Olivia and her husband, Park.

DNA results show that the prime suspect in a murder investigation is Park’s son. Olivia is relieved, knowing this is a mistake. Despite their desire, the Benders don’t have any children. Then comes the confession. Many years ago, Park donated sperm to a clinic. He has no idea how many times it was sold—or how many children he has sired.

As the murder investigation goes deeper, more terrible truths come to light. With every revelation, Olivia must face the unthinkable. The man she married has fathered a killer. But can she hold that against him when she keeps such dark secrets of her own?

This twisting, emotionally layered thriller explores the lies we tell to keep a marriage together–or break each other apart . . .
