Reverie NBC TV Series 2018

NBC’s new television series Reverie sees idyllic VR dreams becoming dangerous nightmares that become near inescapable.

From Mickey Fisher, the creator of Extant, this grounded new thriller follows Mara Kint (Sarah Shahi), a former hostage negotiator and expert on human behaviour, who became a college professor after facing an unimaginable personal tragedy.

But when her former boss, Charlie Ventana (Dennis Haysbert), brings her in to save ordinary people who have lost themselves in an immersive, highly advanced virtual reality program in which users can live out their wildest dreams. The virtual reality tech allows people to summon and inhabit extremely realistic memories. The tech is so immersive and customisable that, for any number of reasons, the client might not wish to return to reality, sending their body into a real-life coma leaving the world and their loved ones behind.

Upon receiving a sufficiently harrowing crash course in Reverie from programmer Paul, Mara is able to join clients inside their dreams and hopefully persuade them to exit the program. Mara, however, has a memory of her own that she’d prefer to forget, yet it threatens to haunt her inside Reverie. However, she finds that in saving others, she may actually have discovered a way to save herself.

The series is created and executive produced by Mickey Fisher. The pilot was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. Tom Szentgyorgyi, Brooklyn Weaver, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey also executive produce. “Reverie” is produced by Universal Television and Amblin Television.

Starring Sarah Shahi (Person of Interest), Sendhil Ramamurthy (Heroes), Kathryn Morris (Cold Case), Dennis Haysbert (24) and Jessica Lu (Awkward).

Catch the series premiere May 30th 10/9c on NBC.
