Once Upon A Time Recap: 7.11 ‘Secret Garden’

Once Upon A Time Secret Garden

Once Upon a Time has finally returned from its hiatus, but with this new episode, it also brings sad news. Once Upon a Time will be ending soon and while the previous story has wrapped up, I think we’re all sad to see a favourite show go.

This week we pick up where we left off with Lucy in a coma and Regina, Zelena and Rumple are now awake. Going back a few years, Robin is doing spells with her friends when Zelena catches her doing more serious magic in the vault. It turns out that Regina gave her a spell book before heading into the Enchanted Forest for Henry and naturally this sets Zelena off, and when Robin says she doesn’t have magic, Zelena takes her phone away. On the way out of the vault, Robin drops a potion vial and she gets transported somewhere else. Meanwhile, at Tiana’s place in the Enchanted Forest, Regina is comforting Hook but it’s interrupted when Zelena shows up to call out Regina—she’s lost Robin.

In the present, Lucy is still in a coma and Regina is trying to figure out what to do because it means she either has to choose Henry or Lucy’s life. Zelena is at a loss so Regina says that they’ll do it together as sisters. In Mother Gothel’s lair, Anastasia wants to hang out with her mother, but she is bound in a pit while Victoria reveals that she woke up Anastasia by putting Lucy to sleep and Anastasia does not take it well.

At the hospital, Zelena is interrupted by Gothel. It turns out that she wants to help Lucy without hurting Henry, but of course there has to be a catch—because when is there ever not? She wants the resurrection amulet to which Zelena agrees and before you start to scream, Zelena has no plans to give it to Gothel. Instead she and Regina go to Roni’s to find it because if Victoria wanted the property then there must have been a good reason.

Back in time, Zelena is still looking for the missing Robin and she insists that this is all Gothel’s fault and Hook wants in on this revenge so Zelena agrees that he can come. They stumble upon Gothel’s invisible house during a seance she’s having with Madame Leota—Haunted Mansion, anyone? In the midst of the drama, Robin appears and admits that she ran away on her own and chooses to stay with Gothel.

In Hyperion Heights, Hook meets up with Rumple to hear the truth about Eloise Gardner. Hook is shocked when he finds out that the problem wasn’t really with Victoria Belfrey, but was with Eloise as Hook still believes that she’s innocent. While all of this is happening, Lucy is still in a coma and the doctor wants to do a test in case they need a donor and Henry volunteers to be tested.

Ivy and Victoria are still stuck in the pit, but Victoria decides to use her Louboutin to snag a pully down in order to get both of them free. Elsewhere, Hook makes a visit to Eloise and while she’s charming Hook, Anastasia is holed up in a closet at her place. Hook leaves and goes back to Rumple and admits that he now believes that Eloise is hiding something.

We are then taken back to young Robin who is still living with Gothel. Zelena has no magic and is ready to give up, but Hook says she can give Robin something stronger than magic which is love. When Gothel brings Robin into the middle of a circle in order to sacrifice her to bring Leota back, Hook and Zelena show up again. Zelena takes her place and screams for Robin to run away. Robin however, grabs a bow and arrow and shoots the amulet out of Gothel’s hand.

Back in reality, Zelena and Regina are both without magic, but they find a sign that says Kelly and Roni’s. Regina says that they can put it back up, but Zelena smashes it because the amulet is inside. They talk about using the amulet to bring back Lucy, but Victoria shows up with a gun to shoot Regina unless she turns it over. Victoria takes the amulet to Gothel in order to save Lucy, but Anastasia has to use her magic to make it useful again. It works but all magic comes with a price—did you read that in Rumplestiltskin’s voice? Ivy appears in a blast of smoke because it turns out she’ll be the new sacrifice.

Back in the past, Robin and Zelena are free from Gothel when Robin admits she’s not ready to have magic so she gives her magic back to her mother. The amulet is left back in that sign, which is how Gothel has it in Hyperion Heights.

Gothel starts to take Ivy’s life, but Victoria finally pushes her out-of-the-way and gives her own life for Lucy’s. She apologises to Ivy for being a terrible person and in that moment she becomes a human being, which just makes it so much sadder. Lucy does wake up, which is the good news, but Rumple and Hook come to the scene to find Ivy with her mother, but it’s too late.

In the episode’s final moments, the doctor makes a revelation and finds out that Henry and Jacinda are Lucy’s parents. Unfortunately, she can’t tell the truth because someone poisoned her water and whoever did also stole a lock of her hair.

Final Thoughts?

Phew! That was an intense episode full of revelations. Who else was shocked when Victoria gave her life for Ivy? I sure was, but I was also too busy crying my heart out.
