New To TV: Doom Patrol

Doom Patrol TV Series 2019

DC is kicking off their 2019 with Doom Patrol, a new television series that is set to premiere on their DC Universe platform.

A re-imagining of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast Super Heroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane, led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief). The Doom Patrol’s members each suffered horrible accidents that gave them superhuman abilities – but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found purpose through The Chief, who brought them together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence – and to protect Earth from what they find. Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of super-powered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. Picking up after the events of Titans, Doom Patrol will find these reluctant heroes in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse, but with a warning that is hard to ignore: their lives will never, ever be the same.

Timothy Dalton plays The Chief, a modern-day mad scientist; Brendan Fraser voices Robotman, a former race car driver whose consciousness has been uploaded into a robotic body; Diane Guerrero plays Crazy Jane, who suffers from dissociative identity disorder and each of her personalities has its own distinct superpower; Matt Bomer provides the voice of Negative Man, who has a “radioactive soul-self”; April Bowlby plays Elasti-Woman, who can manipulate her body at will; Joivan Wade plays Cyborg; and Alan Tudyk plays the villainous Mr. Nobody, “a living shadow able to drain the sanity of others.

We were introduced to the majority of the cast in episode 4 of Titans, but notably there’s been a few changes and additions to the group. The biggest difference is The Chief being recast, who was initially played by Narcos star Bruno Bichir, and will now be played by Timothy Dalton. Within the episode we were introduced to The Chief, Robotman, Negative Man, and Elasti-Woman. In the new series, we’ll see the addition of Crazy Jane, Cyborg, and Mr. Nobody.

Starring Timothy Dalton (Penny Dreadful), Brendan Fraser (The Mummy), Diane Guerrero (Orange Is The New Black), Matt Bomer (White Collar), April Bowlby (Drop Dead Diva), Jovian Wade (EastEnders), and Alan Tudyk (Firefly).

Doom Patrol premieres on the DC Universe platform on February 15th 2019. Since Titans premiered last month on Netflix, it could be possible that Doom Patrol will also join the streaming platform sometime over the next few months.
