St Pancras, London
We start the episode off seeing Niko (Owen McDonnell) alive in a hospital bed with Eve (Sandra Oh) there, along with whom we assume to be Niko’s father as he tells her that he never liked her. Once he leaves, Eve tells Niko that she will figure out who did this and he types on a tablet “piss off forever.” I think that relationship might be done.
Villanelle (Jodie Comer) is sitting at a fancy table. The woman from Episode 4 (the one at the pool with Dasha), Hélène (Camille Cotin) tells Villanelle that she is now a keeper. She gives Villanelle a postcard for her new job and Villanelle is upset that she is still doing the same thing as always. She states that ‘this is bullshit.’
Eve is at the office with Jamie (Danny Sapani) and Bear (Turlough Convery) and they are looking at all the murder victims. Eve looks at the note tied to the pitchfork used to impale Niko. She says that this can’t be about the bus as she knows that Villanelle knows she can’t touch Niko. They also have a photo of Charles’ wife, who was killed when Eve was in Poland. Bear talks to Eve and tells her that it’s okay to be struggling. He shows her a picture of Dasha (Harriet Walter), who they assume was the chalk killer of the gymnast. Eve goes over to Carolyn’s (Fiona Shaw) and asks her about Dasha. Eve wants to go to Barcelona to talk to her as she does not think Villanelle stabbed Niko. Carolyn tells her to be careful and that Dasha used to be the top assassin until she was kicked out for killing one of her own.
Russia
Konstantin (Kim Bodnia) is watching Irina’s (Yuli Lagodinsky) ice hockey game when Villanelle suddenly turns up and talks to Konstantin about what happened with her family, along with that she wants to leave with him. He tells her that they can’t all go together as it will be too easy to find them and that he doesn’t think she is ready to leave everything, such as Eve. Villanelle looks upset and asks him again. He warns Villanelle to not let anyone know. Irina also says that she does not want Villanelle to come.
Carolyn sits down next to a man on a bench and they talk about poker and he asks if she is coming. He then slides a newspaper over to her which contains Kenny’s phone records. There were incoming and outgoing calls to a Russian number and says that he had emailed the records to her already, but she never replied. Carolyn goes to her office to talk to Paul (Steve Pemberton) and then asks if he is working for The 12, which he asks her in return.
Irina is going to school and her mother’s boyfriend hands her her lunch, while Villanelle waves to her from the swings. They head to a driving range together and talk about how annoying mothers are and Irina complains about her mother’s boyfriend and how nice he is. Villanelle tells her that if he is so annoying she should just kill him. Irina lets it slip that Konstantin and her are planning on going to Cuba.
Not Cuba
Carolyn is waiting for Konstantin and she asks if they can go for a drive and he tells her that Geraldine kissed him, She then asks why Kenny called him the night before he died and he explains that Kenny wanted to know whether he was his dad.
Geraldine (Gemma Whelan) comes home and tells Carolyn that she knows she doesn’t like her. Carolyn tells her that Kenny was always hers and Geraldine was always her father’s, but that all they have left is each other. Carolyn asks Geraldine about Konstantin and is not impressed that she has been lying to her.
Konstantin has made it home after his long walk and finds Paul sitting in his dark room. He tells Konstantin that the person they are now after is the person that ordered Charles’ wife to be killed (awkward, I guess Konstantin has to go hunt himself down).
Barcelona
Dasha is bowling while Eve is watching her and she joins her. Eve tells Dasha that Niko is still alive and then Dasha tells Eve that Villanelle will never trust her and that she created Villanelle. She also tells Eve that she can’t win. Dasha also informs Eve that Villanelle is moving up in the world and they can’t touch her.
Villanelle is sitting on a bed with pinned up hair and a man walks through a film set. Villanelle is wearing a brown wig and posing as his hair stylist when she puts a mask on his face and a dryer around his head. She stumbles and suddenly pushes the mask into his mouth, he stabs her with scissors and then he is electrocuted by the dryer. Villanelle drops the scissors and leaves.
Konstantin is packing and calls Irina and tells her to get ready. Meanwhile, Dasha finds Villanelle sitting on the bathroom floor bleeding. Villanelle tells her that she’s done. Irina’s mother’s boyfriend is putting out the bins, while Irina is sitting in the car and Konstantin is watching. Irina suddenly accelerates and hits the boyfriend with the car and drives over him. She grins at Konstantin who looks shocked. Lastly, Eve walks away from Nikos hospital bed.
Overall Thoughts?
This episode felt a bit slower than others, but was very clever. They had some really funny moments and a lot of references to winning and losing games. I’m really intrigued what Villanelle and Eve’s next moves are. Also, will Konstantin leave or not?
