At the end of season 2, Eve has been left for dead in Rome as Villanelle shot her and left her behind after telling her she loved her. We are left wondering if Eve is alive…
Now, let’s recap and review what went down in the season 3 premiere!
Moscow, 1974
The episode starts off with a young female gymnast named Dasha performing on the bars, who is being watched by a young boy. The young boy hands her flowers and kisses her in the locker room, but she pushes him away and starts punching him. She kills him and positions him in a seated position and pours chalk all over him.
MI6, London (Present Day)
Carolyn (Fiona Shaw) is in a trial and being questioned for all her unauthorised decisions and actions. We also learn that Paul is running/overseeing a desk for Carolyn.
Spain
We see a young woman giving a wedding speech when the camera cuts across and we see that the woman is getting married to Villanelle (Jodie Comer). Villanelle gives an interesting speech about her ex and when she sees an older woman standing in the doorway. She runs towards her and tackles her to the ground, yelling.
New Malden, England
Eve (Sandra Oh) is alive(!) and shopping, but she is clearly still recovering from her gunshot wound.
Barcelona, Spain
We see a photograph of the young gymnast, Dasha from earlier hanging on the wall. Villanelle is talking to the old woman and they have a tense relationship. The pair used to work together and if Villanelle comes back, they will send the old woman home. Dasha quotes the title of the episode and tells Villanelle that she has to return. Villanelle asks to be a keeper. They strangle each other and then laugh.
Kenny’s Work
Kenny (Sean Delaney) bikes to his new job as he is now working as a writer in a new office. He is researching murders, but deletes the files.
Asian Restaurant
Eve is working in the kitchen making dumplings, but she does not want to work at the front of the house. The TV behind Eve shows a woman being shot by another woman (I see what you did there).
London Gift Shop
Konstantin (Kim Bodnia) is browsing through the store when one of his many phones begins ringing. We see that Irinia is calling, but he rejects the call and then of his other phones ring, which he rejects as well. He tells the shopkeeper that he is buying the magnet for his daughter that hates London.
Later on at his house, he listens to his missed calls and it’s his daughter who is asking when he is coming back. When he receives a food delivery, at the bottom a note says “Time to go fishing.”
Gymnastic Hall
Villanelle is at a practice with Dasha coaching her and other young girls. Dasha hands Villanelle an envelope and postcard with a new job.
Eve’s House
Eve sends a toilet roll picture to someone, saying it made her think of them and then later on, Kenny visits Eve as she sent him the photo of the loo roll. Kenny tells Eve that he quit working for MI6 and is now an investigative journalist, he says he is concerned about The 12 and that he has been researching them. Kenny asks if she is still in touch with…. Eve assumes he means Villanelle and states that she is done with her, but Kenny actually meant Nico (Owen McDonnell). Eve tells Kenny that they still see each other every now and then.
Eve later visits Nico. They talk and he signs some documents regarding their house, while telling her that he deserves more than her.
Girona, Spain
Villanelle is dressed as a delivery person (she is truly iconic with all her undercover outfits). She talks to a woman in the store and when the woman climbs the ladder, Villanelle pulls it from under her. The woman crashes to the ground, but she attacks Villanelle. Villanelle hits her with a jar, positions her in a seated position, and then pours some sort of spice on her, which is a parallel to how Dasha killed the young boy, years earlier.
Carolyn’s Home
Carolyn is packing up belongings, while Kenny tries to stand up to her and we learn that they are moving.
Kenny’s Work
Eve tells Kenny that she will come out with him and his friends, but when Eve comes to pick Kenny up from work, he’s not there and has left his phone. She sees someone falling off the building and runs outside to find Kenny lying on the ground. Dead.
Overall Thoughts?
This episode was once again beautifully shot and it’s great to be back with these characters. I got a bit annoyed at the constant switch between characters and locations, but I am very intrigued where this season is heading. I have so many questions and am still confused, but let’s see what happens in Episode 2. Alright, now I’m going to go and cry about Kenny’s death.
