The Road to Sense8 Series Finale

Sense8 Netflix Series Finale

Who am I? Do you mean where I’m from? What I one day might become? What I do? What I’ve done? What I dream? Do you mean… what you see or what I’ve seen? What I fear or what I dream? Do you mean who I love? Do you mean who I’ve lost? Who am I?

One of Netflix’s most talked about original series is coming to an end on June 8th. After just two incredible seasons, the series that was surrounded by controversy and sparked a revolution amongst fans will conclude in a two-hour season finale.

Sense8 follows eight individuals across the world who are described as hypersensorium; this means that they feel more and their minds expand beyond their physical body. In this case, their mind expands to all other seven members of their “cluster.” Each cluster is formed of eight people and can overlap when eye contact is made with a member of another cluster. All in all, the series focuses heavily on the idea that these individuals are full of their humanity and ability to see the world through others and understanding differences.

It has a very good and solid message with a diverse cast and strong plot. In this case, all Sensates across the word are hunted by people who want to both rid the world of them or find a way to control them. The bad guys are disguised as a multinational research group focusing on human mutations and better the human race through genetic research, while also hunting Sensates and seek to put an end to their kind. Of course, the program is funded by several nations who fear that Sensate powers might run freely in this modern-day terrorist era.

Among clusters, Sensates have the ability to communicate, appear and share knowledge and skills with one another, which is shown throughout the series. When Capheus needs to fight off some bad guys, Sun lends her kickboxing and martial arts abilities.

When Wolfgang is trapped in a kitchen and some gang members have him cornered in, Kala steps in and uses spices and cleaning supplies to make a bomb of some sorts to give Wolfgang an opportunity to escape.

Fun series, right? It is also a very costly series to film, too. For the first season, Netflix invested an average of 4.5 million dollars per episode and raised it to 9 million per episode on its second season. The cluster that this series focuses on is scattered all around the world, producers wanted to be genuine and true to all the cultures explored. This meant that every season the cast and crew would be travelling around the globe and filming at several different locations around the world. Naturally, this became a bit too expensive.

On June 1st of 2017, Netflix announced that the show would be cancelled because of budgeting reasons despite the series having a massive amount of loyal and dedicated fans, it wasn’t enough to keep the show running with the quality that the showrunners knew the show deserved. However, thanks to a massive move that you might have seen or even been part of, Netflix showrunners agreed to move forward and approved a two-hour series finale to wrap up and avoid a cliffhanger.

So where did we leave off? At the end of season two, we saw that Wolfgang had been captured by Whispers. Whispers is the man who seems to be the main hunter of Sensates and he has been tracking down this specific cluster and has significant power under BPO.

Thankfully, seven members of the cluster united and travelled to London to capture Whispers. The two-hour series finale will revolve around the seven other members fighting BPO, fighting to get Wolfgang back or risk losing it all.

You can catch the Sense8 finale on Netflix worldwide on June 8th.
