Crackle’s new television series The Oath stars Ryan Kwanten and Sean Bean, and it was created by former LA Deputy Joe Halpin to “shine a light” on police gangs after being part of one himself.
The series explores a world of gangs made up of those sworn to protect and defend and sheds light on corrupt and secret societies that are nearly impossible to join—only a select few make the cut—but once inside, members will do what they must to protect each other from enemies on the outside and from within their own ranks.
Tom Hammond (Sean Bean), former leader of the cop gang The Ravens, is released from jail and finds his son Steve (Ryan Kwanten) as its reluctant leader; rival cop gang The Vipers, led by Theresa Winters (Eve Mauro), have taken over their pact with drug dealer, Neckbone (Kwame Patterson); and the FBI are looking to take down corrupt officers
Created by Joe Halpin (Hawaii Five-O), who worked as a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy in South Central for 17 years, 12 of which as an undercover officer, the series takes an unforgiving look at the complicated dynamics in these organisations and documents the lives of those willing to risk it all, to have it all.
Halpin described himself as one having belonged to a gang as they exist in police departments all across the United States and even states he has previous partners in prison. He hopes the new series will help bring to light the issue and perhaps it will cause conversations and things to be set into motion so something can be done.
The Oath is executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and his G-Unit Film & Television Inc., Todd Hoffman and Dennis Kim of Storied Media Group, Anne Clements (StartUp) and Joe Halpin who is also creator, writer and showrunner. The series is directed by Jeff T. Thomas (Blindspot) and Luis Prieto (Kidnap).
The series stars Sean Bean (Game of Thrones), Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Cory Hardrict (American Sniper), Katrina Law (Arrow), Arlen Escarpeta (The Magicians), J.J. Soria (Animal Kingdom), Michael Malarkey (The Vampire Diaries), Eve Mauro (CSI Miami), Kwame Patterson (The Wire), Linda Purl (Homeland) and Elisabeth Röhm (Law & Order).
The 10-episode season premieres today on Crackle, Sony Pictures Television Networks’ free, ad-supported streaming network. You can follow “The Oath” on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
