The 100 Recap: 6.08 ‘The Old Man and The Anomaly’

The 100 6.08 The Old Man and The Anomaly

As titled, this episode opens with Xavier leading Dioyza and Octavia to the Verge—the place with healing properties for Octavia and her withered arm. Dioyza hopes this trip will finally lead to some answers about this old man, Gabriel, and what this anomaly concept means. We also see everyone’s reactions to the truth about Clarke and how she’s still alive!

Along the way, Xavier leads them to a shelter littered with old photos and other means of survival. He tells Dioyza that from this point on, they will carry no weapons, telling her that the effects of the Red Sun are nothing compared to the Verge and urges that it’s for her protection. Soon after, Octavia starts to have a fit, suffering from temporary amnesia. Dioyza approaches, slowly hoping she can talk her down and calm her and it works. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m really growing to love this Dioyza/Octavia friendship. It couldn’t come at a better time either, considering they both have no one but are in desperate need for a shoulder to lean on. Their fight and flight instincts seem to line up allowing them to form an unlikely bond and I’m loving that unexpected angle!

Dioyza seems to notice something off about the photos and the shelter, prompting her to draw a weapon from the stack before they leave, calling Xavier, Gabriel. He makes a comment about her seeing his scar and he tells her what happened. As Gabriel continues to explain his story to Dioyza and how he escaped in his last host, Xavier, he seems to be haunted by hallucinations of Josephine. He tells them that he was ashamed for what his immortality cost. They start hear noises and decide to hustle, close to the Verge.

Meanwhile, Raven and Abby are seen back on Eligius IV on a mission to save Kane. Raven confronts her about the extremity of Abby’s methods and Raven tells her to look at Gavin, Kane’s future host and she can’t. This just fuels Raven’s anger, knowing that this whole thing is wrong and too frustrated that no one can see it, even Gavin. Simone injects him with the serum to kill him in order to prep his vacant body for Kane’s mind.

Josephine and Russell argue over the realisation that Clarke is still in there. Russell sees this as a second chance for him to fix his mistake and Josephine finds it as a countdown for her own survival. She has 36 hours before the damage becomes too great and they both perish. He suggests finding a willing host to transfer to and then Clarke can keep her body and come back fixing his error as well as keeping his daughter. But she doesn’t see this as a win-win. He tells her that if given a second chance, you should always take it. She still doesn’t agree.

Bellamy and the others plot ways to save Clarke. Madi tries to propose an aggressive plan but Bellamy brushes it off, saying that it’s the Dark Commander and doesn’t mean what she says. She claims Echo would agree with it and although she agrees that it could work, she doesn’t think it’s one they should follow.

Emori and Jon talk and he tells her that he is siding with Jo for immortality. Emori flips. He proposes they become nightbloods, then Primes, and ultimately immortal. Jo interrupts them and then asks Ryker why he isn’t living in the Palace, but doesn’t have enough energy to waste time on that and moves on to why she’s approached them. She’s enlisting their help to rid Clarke from her body, but Jon didn’t know Clarke was still alive, leaving him with some severe doubt.

Jon asks Josephine if Clarke can see him (obviously wracked with guilt!) and she taunts him. As they continue to work on ways to free Jo from Clarke’s grasp, she tells Emori that she likes her and approves Jon’s taste in women.

Emori goes to collect a shock collar from Bellamy to help Josephine, but after asking, she immediately feels guilty. Bellamy gives it to her without question but she can’t go through with betraying her friends, even if that means losing her chance at immortality, so she turns around and tells them the truth: that Clarke is alive. She sees his face and realises that he already knew and now she’s the one feeling betrayed. She asks him what they’re going to do about it because they’re wiping Clarke today, but before they can hatch a plan, he asks where is Madi? We see Madi killing two members of Sanctum and her declaration that she’s just getting started.

Back on Eligius IV, Abby goes to Raven. She asks her if she would do anything, if it meant bringing back someone she loved. She responds with, “not at the expense of another”. Raven asks her if this is what Marcus would want and Abby hesitates before she says, maybe but at least he would be alive. Raven tells her to just leave, not wanting to hear anymore.

Later on, Raven steps in before Abby kills herself trying to save Kane, saying she couldn’t save her mother from the bottle but she can sure as hell save Abby. Gavin (or should I say Kane) wakes up and recognises Abby right away, but then he sees the body hiding under the sheet and he asks her what she’s done….?

Josephine threatens Ryker, Emori, and Jon saying she has things on everyone that she would bring to light if they turn on her. For Ryker, it’s a letter incriminating him in Gabriel’s escape. Jade lies in wait to kill Jon if he betrays Jo and as she starts to threaten Emori, she turns around just as Emori is out the door. She’s taken the device Jo needs to kill Clarke. As Emori is cornered by Jon and Josephine, Bellamy and Echo show up and back her up, thwarting Jo’s plans. Seeing no way out, Josephine runs to the radiation field as Emori runs with the device to blast them offline with an EVP allowing them to continue their plan to save Clarke because that’s the way to the lab. But before Emori can follow through, Jo turns around and threatens Jon, leaving them at a stalemate.

Jo slices Jon’s leg. Emori runs to him as Jo runs. Bellamy chases. Jon tells Emori to go but she won’t. These two are so adorable! And I must admit, when he first asked her about a chance at immortality, I really thought he was proposing to her!

Meanwhile, Jackson, Miller, and Jordan look for Madi in the compound and discover the bodies she’s left in her wake. To the Primes, it looks like the work of the Children of Gabriel, but they are not convinced. He tells them to find the earth visitors aka Bellamy and the others. Jordan saves Delilah from Madi’s blade, taking the hit instead, piercing his chest. Priya holds him as he falls. Was there some recognition between these two? I know I saw something. The manhunt alarm continues to sound.

Gabriel continues to see Jo as they finally reach the Verge. Dioyza starts to see vivid hallucinations of a little girl and decides to follow her, right into the Verge. Octavia goes after her despite Gabriel saying that no one has ever come back from it. Moments later, Octavia is spit out but no Dioyza. Octavia falls into Gabriel and sees her arm, healed.

Priya defends Jordan to Russell. He declares all others will stand trial for their actions. Ryker exposes Russell’s betrayal over skipping the line and reviving his daughter. Priya is angry, saying it wasn’t their daughter’s turn. Enraged, Ryker tells them that it didn’t quite take either.

Emori and a barely alive Jon are brought in to the banquet hall and Russell demands they be imprisoned. He tells Jade to arm the guards and find the others. He wants his daughter back, whatever it takes.

And that’s it! This build-up is absolutely crazy! This episode deserves another 8/10! I’m so excited to see where this headed! Bellamy splitting from the others to chase Jo definitely has me on edge, worried about his safety!! And Kane and Abby’s relationship is definitely headed for another rough patch!
