Supergirl Returns For Season 3

Supergirl Season 3 2017 Melissa Benoist

After the events of Season 2, the Kara Danvers we knew ceases to exist as she takes on her true identity of being just Supergirl in Season 3 of The CW’s Supergirl.

Now the “Girl of Steel”, which also doubles as the season premiere title, Kara struggles to come to terms after she was forced to send Mon-El into space to save his life. Despite being near-invincible, our Supergirl dons a new armour in order to hide her emotions and this will see her embrace her Kryptonian heritage more at the start of the new season.

In an interview with EW, Melissa Benoist explained her character’s situation.

“She’s really fragile at the top of the season, but only people closest to her will see that, because she’s almost solidified on the exterior and is really trying to push down whatever pain she’s felt about losing Mon-El,” Benoist says. “In turn, she has made this massive decision to say goodbye to her humanity and really embrace being an alien. We hear her say quite a bit in the first five episodes, ‘I’m not a human, I come from a different planet, so this doesn’t apply to me.’”

Just like with any new season, there’s plenty of new faces and threats for our heroes and sidekicks to come up against, including Heroes alum Adrian Pasdar. He will be playing the role of this season’s main villain, Morgan Edge, who is a ruthless real estate developer who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. His character will obviously go up against Supergirl, but also Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) which we will see in the first episode.

In the Season 2 finale, it was revealed another pod escaped Krypton’s destruction and it housed a bio-engineered weapon named Reign, also known as a Worldkiller. Odette Annable will be playing this character, however, she will gradually grow into the role of Reign and will debut as a single mother named Samantha Arias.

A change of face for Alura, previously played by Laura Benanti, will be taken over by Smallville alum Erica Durance, so we can expect to see much more of Kara’s birth mother this season.

Supergirl returns at 8pm on The CW.
