After the events of the first season, every aspect of The CW’s Riverdale gets ramped up in Season 2.
The series abruptly ended after Archie’s (KJ Apa) father, Fred Andrews (Luke Perry), was shot by an armed robber at Pop’s diner. The new season will pick up right where it left off with Archie rushing his father to the hospital, which will see Archie go ‘dark’ after the incident with revenge, darkness, and violence on the table.
Archie won’t be the only one heading to the dark side with the entire series taking on more of a darker approach, especially with Jughead (Cole Sprouse) now joining the Southside Serpents. Veronica’s (Camilla Mendes) father, Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos), will be joining the cast and he’ll certainly stir up issues for his family.
There will also be a few changes and additions with Charles Melton (American Horror Story) taking over the role of Reggie from Ross Butler. Also joining the cast is Hart Denton as Chic Cooper, Betty’s long-lost older brother, and Brit Morgan (Supergirl) as Penny Peabody, an attorney who prefers her clients to pay her in favours rather than cash, which Jughead will discover.
Stirring up trouble for Bughead’s relationship is Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan, Finding Carter), a bisexual Southside Serpent who is almost the female version of Jughead. Another exciting improvement is there will be plenty more of Kevin (Casey Cott), especially in Episode 3, which will show what he gets up to when he’s not hanging out on the outskirts of the fab four.
What else can we expect? The birth of Polly’s (Tiera Skovbye) twins, Veronica’s ex Nick St Clair (Graham Phillips, The Good Wife) drops by, a most likely dream wedding sequence, and plenty more with Season 2 being made up of 22 episodes, making it 9 episodes longer than its first.
Riverdale Season 2 premieres on The CW at 8pm ET and for international fans, catch the series weekly on Netflix.
