I don’t know what it is about these adult romance series that make them so compelling, but I honestly hope authors will never stop writing them. It’s just so much fun to follow the same characters over a set of books but get to see everyone have their own time to shine. In Not Your Ex’s Hexes, we follow Rose Maxwell, who’s spent her entire life training to become the next Prima on the Supernatural Council. Now that she’s decided to step down, Rose is finally ready to focus on herself instead of on everyone else’s needs and just go for what she wants—including a steaming hot, impulsive one-night stand with Damian Adams, a half-Demon Veterinarian that refuses to leave her head even weeks after he’s vacated her bed. But when Rose is sentenced to community service at Damian’s animal sanctuary it becomes impossible for the two to ignore their undeniable chemistry. Since neither of them is looking for anything serious, a friends-with-benefits fling sounds like the perfect way to go. While Rose is figuring out what she wants to do with her life, Damian is faced with a problem: if Rose really wants to follow her dream and become a Hunter, it puts Damian right back into a world he’s gladly left behind. Not to mention that falling in love with the stubborn yet fierce woman might just end up in Damian losing more than his heart—his humanity.

Lovers of romance tropes, rejoice! Not Your Ex’s Hexes offers so many beloved tropes: from friends-with-benefits, forced proximity, grumpy meets sunshine and one-night-stand-to-true-love! Rose and Damian truly feel like they’re meant for each other. While Damian is more on the brooding, grumpy side, you can tell right from the beginning that he has a heart of gold and would go to the ends of the earth for his loved ones. Rose, meanwhile, is a bit scattered after basically reorganising her entire life and being faced with the opportunity (and burden) to figure out what she wants to do with her life now that her destined path has been erased. Their dynamic worked perfectly together and the banter, while sometimes almost a bit too much, is sure to make readers grin so hard their cheeks will smart.

A highlight of this book, just like its predecessor, is of course the relationship between the sisters. After we’ve seen Violet get her once-in-a-lifetime romance, it’s such a pleasure to check back in with her and see just how devoted these sisters are to each other. Whether it’s a fun conversation that makes you cackle or one of them standing up for the other, this band of women truly warms your heart.

Beyond that, we also get to follow Rose on her path of finding herself. It can’t be easy to try and re-evaluate what you always thought was going to be your plan in life and figuring out what you actually want to do now that you’ve got the opportunity and we really get to see Rose wade through the murky waters and eventually pursuing her dreams of becoming a Hunter. This storyline alone added a lot of depth to the otherwise easily digestible romance and made for a wonderful, self-affirming reading experience.

If you’re looking for a fun, lighthearted and magical romance with a focus on figuring out your life path, Not Your Ex’s Hexes is sure to bewitch your mind and heart!

Not Your Ex’s Hexes is available from Amazon, Book Depository, and other good book retailers, like your local bookstore, as of February 7th 2023.

Synopsis | Goodreads

In April Asher’s next Supernatural Singles novel, Not Your Ex’s Hexes, a one-night-stand between a willful witch and a broody half-demon conjures an adventure that wouldn’t be complete without several magical mishaps.

For her entire life, Rose Maxwell trained to become the next Prima on the Supernatural Council. Now that she’s stepped down, it’s time for this witch to focus on herself. And not think about her impulsive one-night stand with Damian Adams, a half-Demon Veterinarian who she can’t get out of her head. Neither of them is looking for a relationship. But when Rose is sentenced to community service at Damian’s animal sanctuary it becomes impossible for them to ignore their sparking attraction. A friends-with-benefits, no feelings, no strings arrangement works perfectly for them both.

After a sequence of dead-end jobs, it’s not until Rose tangos with two snarly demons that she thinks she’s finally found her path. However, this puts Damian back on the periphery of a world he thought he left behind. He doesn’t approve of Rose becoming a Hunter, but if there’s one thing he’s learned about the stubborn witch, it was telling her not to do something was one sure-fire way to make sure she did.

Working—and sleeping—together awakens feelings Damian never knew he had…and shouldn’t have. Because thanks to his ex’s hex, if he falls in love, he’ll not only lose his heart—but his humanity.
