Written in 2005, John Green’s debut novel, Looking For Alaska, is finally getting an adaptation that many are looking forward to watching.
Looking For Alaska centers around teenager Miles “Pudge” Halter, as he enrolls in boarding school to try to gain a deeper perspective on life. He falls in love with Alaska Young, and finds a group of loyal friends. But after an unexpected tragedy, Miles and his close friends attempt to make sense of what they’ve been through.
It’s been a long road for this novel to come to life with the film rights initially picked up in 2005 with it to be directed and written by Josh Schwartz. However, the film was set aside and made a reappearance in 2015 after the success of The Fault In Our Stars and Paper Towns, which are also written by John Green. Filming was pushed back from 2015 to 2016 after issues with casting, and after that, it was tabled once more. Then, in May 2018, Hulu announced they’d adapt it as a limited series. After all of that, Josh Schwartz still wrote the script for the series after initially being onboard 13 years ago.
Starring Charlie Plummer (Boardwalk Empire), Kristine Froseth (Sierra Burgess Is A Loser), Denny Love (Lucifer), Jay Lee (American Vandal), Landry Bender (Fuller House), Sofia Vassilieva (Medium), Uriah Shelton (Girl Meets World), Jordan Connor (Riverdale), Ron Cephas Jones (This Is Us), and Timothy Simons (Veep).
Created for television by Josh Schwartz, the series comes from Paramount Television and Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire. Savage and Schwartz will serve as executive producers. alongside Jessica Tuchinsky, Mark Waters, John Green, and Marty Bowen and Isaac Klausner of Temple Hill. Fake Empire exec Lis Rowinski will co-executive produce. Sarah Adina Smith (“Hanna” and “Legion”) directs the first episode.
Looking For Alaska premieres October 18th on Hulu and October 19th for Australians on Stan. The limited series will consist of eight episodes.
