If you’re after some comedy, plus a little action and darkness, then HBO’s new series Barry is for you!
Barry is a dark comedy starring Bill Hader who plays an ex-marine who is now a depressed, low-rent hitman from the Midwest. Lonely and dissatisfied in his life, he reluctantly travels to Los Angeles to execute a hit on an aspiring actor, which was arranged by his handler, Fuches (Stephen Root), who arranges Barry’s “jobs” and takes care of the business side of their work.
Barry follows his “mark” into an acting class run by the eccentric and pedantic, Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler), and ends up finding an accepting community in a group of eager hopefuls within the LA theater scene. There he meets Sally (Sarah Goldberg), an aspiring actress who befriends Barry during Cousineau’s class. He wants to start a new life as an actor, but his criminal past won’t let him walk away—can he find a way to balance both worlds?
Bill Hader not only stars as the lead, but he also serves co-creator and making his debut as a director. Hader will serve alongside his fellow co-creator Alec Berg (Silicon Valley).
The eight-episode series stars Bill Hader (Trainwreck), Stephen Root (Get Out), Sarah Goldberg, Glenn Fleshler (Billions), Anthony Carrigan (Gotham) and Henry Winkler (Arrested Development).
Barry premieres Sunday, March 25, at 10:30 pm ET on HBO.
