Prepare to feel all the emotions while watching ABC’s new television series A Million Little Things with it focusing on a group of friends and the things they face in life.
They say friendship isn’t one big thing, it’s a million little things; and that’s true for a group of friends from Boston who bonded under unexpected circumstances. Some have achieved success, others are struggling in their careers and relationships, but all of them feel stuck in life. After one of them dies unexpectedly, it’s just the wake-up call the others need to finally start living. Along the way, they discover that friends may be the one thing to save them from themselves.
The series was created by DJ Nash and executive produces Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor. In an interview with E! News, Nash said the series was inspired by his own experience of losing a friend.
“At his funeral, I promised myself I’d live differently,” he explained. “I think that’s what you do when someone goes too soon. You use their death as a way to remind yourself to keep living.”
Naturally with the series portraying and discussing suicide, there have been major concerns especially after the likes of Netflix’s Thirteen Reasons Why. The series has included information on their website, but Nash says their goal isn’t to romanticise it and instead portray it in a real way.
“I think there’s absolutely nothing romantic about suicide — it’s a real conscious thing in our [writers’] room,” he said during an interview with Los Angeles Times. “We’re not romanticizing the story; we’re telling it in an authentic way.”
“If you watch the show, you’ll see that these people’s lives are changed because of this. I don’t think [people] will watch the show and say, ‘Oh, I should do that too.’ If anything, it’s a cautionary tale of what can happen. It is something we take unbelievably seriously.”
The series will also feature a PSA with three of the show’s cast members, Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park, and Talinda Bennington (Chester Bennington’s widow). This will air after the episode.
Stars David Giuntoli (Grimm) as Eddie, Ron Livingston (Loudermilk) as Jon, Romany Malco (Weeds) as Rome, Allison Miller (13 Reasons Why) as Maggie, Christina Moses (The Originals) as Regina, Christina Ochoa (Valor) as Ashley, James Roday (Psych) as Gary, Stephanie Szostak (Satisfaction) as Delilah, and Lizzy Greene as Sophie.
A Million Little Things premieres Wednesday, September 26 at 10pm ET on ABC.
