It must be the time for music biopics! With Bohemian Rhapsody released last year and Elton John’s biopic Rocketman being released later this year, Netflix also joins the game with The Dirt, which features the rock ‘n roll band Mötley Crüe.
Based on the bestselling autobiography from Mötley Crüe, the film is an unflinching tale of success and excess as four misfits rise from the streets of Hollywood to the heights of international fame. The band also recorded four new studio songs for the soundtrack, which frontman Vince Neil announced in September.
The project has been around since 2006, when MTV Films and Paramount initially bought film rights to the band’s autobiography, The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band, with Larry Charles tapped to direct. Focus Features picked up the rights in 2015 before eventually selling to Netflix.
Starring Machine Gun Kelly as Tommy Lee, Douglas Booth (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) as Nikki Sixx, Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones) as Mick Mars, Daniel Webber (The Punisher) as Neil, David Costabile (Billions) as Doc McGhee, Leven Rambin (The Hunger Games), and Pete Davidson (Saturday Night Live) as Tom Zutaut.
The Dirt premieres March 22nd on Netflix.
