The first look at The CW’s Legacies, which is the spin-off to The Originals, was released at San Diego Comic-Con and it teases what the new series has planned.
At San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, the cast and crew from Legacies dropped the season 1 trailer and teased a lot about the upcoming spin-off. For those of you who do not know, Legacies is a spin-off of The Originals and The Vampire Diaries, two incredibly popular TV shows on The CW network. While The Vampire Diaries ended a little while ago with its’ eighth season and The Originals is currently slated to end, Legacies is said to keep the drama and supernatural alive on The CW.
Legacies is set to follow the daughter of Klaus Mikaelson and Hayley Marshall, Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell) who is descended from vampire, werewolf, and witch bloodlines, which makes her very powerful. It is set two years after the events of The Originals as she attends the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted.
At SDCC, it was revealed that several Vampire Diaries alums will be joining the new series. Matthew Davis was confirmed to be returning as Alaric Saltzman who he has played in both series. At the convention, Davis remarked, “I’ve been pleasantly surprised. When Alaric was brought on in season one [of TVD], it was only supposed to be a four-episode arc. I’m thrilled we get to do this trilogy.” Davis isn’t the only one said to be returning from The Vampire Diaries. Zach Roerig who played Matt Donovan has signed on to appear and Paul Wesley is going to direct at least one episode.
Caroline, played by Candice King will be mentioned and she is rumoured to star. However, none of The Originals leads have signed on to reprise their roles, but they will be mentioned often and there’s hope that some of them will decide to pop in every once in a while. Caroline and Alaric’s twins are going to be main characters in the show as well. Josie and Lizzy Saltzman attend the boarding school, but they have a little bit of a mean girl reputation. Hopefully, they’ll go their mother’s route and turn out to be complex, lovable characters.
Lastly, as revealed by the trailer, there will be a lot of new and original characters at the school, including Rafael who is a werewolf with anger management issues and he is played by Peyton Alex Smith. M.G. will be a new female vampire character at the school and Landon played by Aria Shahghasemi will be a townie who catches Hope’s eye. There will be many more new characters, but these are the few we know for now.
Legacies premieres Thursday October 25 at 9/8c following Supernatural on The CW.
