We chat with author K. Bromberg about Twined Fates, which is the explosive conclusion to the Tangled Hearts trilogy.
Hi, Kristy! Can you tell our readers a bit about yourself?
Hi everyone! My name is Kristy, I’m a mom of 3 (ages 16, 17, and 20), and I live in Southern California. I’m a lover of all things animals and sports . . . and of course, great books! This is my 14th year as a full time author and I’m so grateful to get to do what I love for a living!
When did you first discover your love for writing and stories?
I’ve always loved reading and writing but honestly, I never thought I’d write a book, let alone 50+ of them.
It wasn’t until 2012 when I had 3 kids under the age of 5 and needed something to mentally stimulate me at night once they were put to bed, that I started writing. My first book was titled Driven and I wrote it more as a challenge to myself. I only told two people when I published it in May 2013 . . . and then within a few months, that series took off and I’ve never looked back.
My goal with each and every book is to try and make the writing and the story-telling better than the last one.
Quick lightning round! Tell us:
- The first book you ever remember reading: Where the Red Fern Grows
- The one that made you want to become an author: Anything Sydney Sheldon . . . particularly The Other Side of Midnight . . . but romance-wise, it was Fifty Shades of Gray that had me tilting my head and thinking, “I can do this.”
- The one that you can’t stop thinking about: Currently? Onyx Storm because I HAVE to know what happened during those 10 hours!
Twined Fates is the third and final installment in your Tangled Heart series and it’s out now! If you could only describe it in five words, what would they be?
Explosive. Passionate. Redemptive. Unforgettable. Multi-layered
For those who haven’t picked up the series yet, what can they expect?
Readers can expect a sexy, emotionally charged romance filled with secrets, betrayal, revenge, and enough twists to keep them guessing. There is a morally gray hero, a heroine who refuses to back down, and chemistry between them that’s as volatile as it is undeniable. The series is about two people who are caught between love and hate, the past and the present, what’s expected of them versus what’s best for them, and the lengths they’ll go to for the person they can’t seem to let go of. It’s messy and intense and nothing is quite what it seems.
Were there any moments or characters you really enjoyed writing or exploring further?
I really loved writing the scenes with Leo (13 year old boy) and Holden (MMC). Holden is a very complicated character and through their interaction, I think the reader is able to see redemptive qualities in Holden. It gives insight to who he was and now is. I also really loved writing any kind of banter between Rowan and Holden. They play off each other so well.
Did you face any challenges whilst writing? How did you overcome them?
Writing a trilogy over a 3 year period is challenging with a story this complicated and with so many varying plot threads. It’s easy to forget something when you write one book, and then don’t write the next one for eight months. To help me get a better grasp on it, I wrote down every plot point or scene I wanted to have on a post-it note. Then, I laid out every post-it note on my dining room table and arranged them in order of how I wanted to story and the reveals to unfold. After I had established that, I then separated them into the three books and adjusted or added as needed.
Did the series change much over time from when you started working on the first book?
The series changed somewhat. Leo was never part of the original storyline and therefore he has a huge impact in book 3 that I never anticipated. There were finer details about her brother that came to me at the end of book 2 that I thought made the series better. For me, I always start with an outline, but I know the best part of a book or series is when the characters start telling you what they think should happen. That happened with this series and I loved it!
What’s next for you?
I’m currently working on a sports romance series called the Lone Star Rebels. It’s a series of standalones set in a football team. I’m currently writing the fourth of five books. Then I have a speculative fiction project I’ll finish writing. More information about that will be announced shortly
Lastly, what books are you looking forward to picking up soon? Any you’ve got your eye on that are releasing in 2027?
My TBR is ridiculous. So many books I want to read but I prefer not to read while I’m writing a story. There are a few romantasy books I’m looking forward to. Definitely some romance. And a few non-fiction.
