Dinosaurs Return In ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom

How far would you go to save a species that has been extinct for centuries and it could soon very well happen again?

The end of Jurassic World let people leave the cinema with an ending that could have easily been a standalone movie, but why would you stop when you can tell so much more? Plus also make a significant amount on the popular franchise at the same time.

Fallen Kingdom starts almost where the first movie left off. Three years later, Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) is now an animal activist who wants to save the dinosaurs from becoming extinct again, and this could soon happen again as the volcano on Isla Nublar is about to erupt and could kill them all.

The politicians are debating if they should send a government sponsored rescue team to the island and transport them to another island. We then get to see Jeff Goldblum reprise his character from the original trilogy as Dr. Ian Malcolm who gives his opinion as an expert on the case, and like back then, he is not a supporter of giving those creatures a chance to live.

Dinosaurs had their shot, and nature targeted them for extinction.

After the government makes the decision to not help the dinosaurs, Claire then receives an invite from Eli Mills (Rafe Spall) who is working for and with Benjamin Lockwood (James Cromwell). Back in the original trilogy, Lockwood and Hammond worked together on the extraction of dinosaurs DNA from an amber stone and then cloned the first dinosaur. He is truly interested in rescuing all the dinosaurs and has already the perfect island to transport them to, but he needs Claire to lead a team to the island.

This is how Owen (Chris Pratt) comes into the picture, and he is the only one who knows the behaviour of the animals the best, especially when it comes to Blue. As Mills puts it, Blue is the last velociraptor and therefore the most intelligent creature on earth, plus her empathy training makes her the most unusual as well.

Claire also recruits two people from her Dinosaur Protection Group—Zia Rodrigues (Daniella Pineda) who is a paleo-veterinarian, and Franklin Webb (Justice Smith) who is a systems analyst. The team takes off to Isla Nublar where a special forces group is waiting for them to escort them safely on the island. So the team takes off to Isla Nublar where a group of special force is waiting for them to escort them safely on the island.

But all is not as it used to be. While Lockwood is on his deathbed knowing that he will save those poor dinosaurs from certain death, his business partner Mills has other plans entirely. He instructed the guards to bring all the dinosaurs to Lockwood’s mansion so he can sell them to the highest bidder and also take DNA samples to allow him to clone new dinosaurs with the help of Dr. Wu (BD Wong).

The craziness of Mills and Wong’s plan continues as they want to create the perfect weapon—a DNA cocktail of the Indominus Rex, which was the big bad from Jurassic World, and a velociraptor. The new hybrid will be known as the Indoraptor and it will be the perfect weapon for the military.

With Owen’s help, they catch Blue and leave Claire and her team behind on the island while the volcano erupts for the last time. And so, the race against the clock begins and they have to find a way to the shore to reach the ship that will be leaving very soon. We are then faced with a heartbreaking scene where the island is destroyed and all the dinosaurs are left behind, dying slowly.

At Lockwood’s mansion, we learn more about Lockwood and Hammond after they successfully cloned their first dinosaur and what a role his granddaughter Maisie plays—and let me tell you, that secret is one not most people would have expected to be revealed. She is the on who also discovers Mills plan and wants to warn her grandfather about it. You might be thinking: how can this possibly go even worse? Buckle up, because it does!

Claire and Owen discover the true purpose of the rescue mission and are determined to stop Mills. The rest of the movie takes place at Lockwood’s mansion where Mills is hosting an auction with warlords from all over the world. Claire and Owen are getting help from Maisie, who shows them the way around the house and reveals the things she just discovered herself.

The movie ends with an action-packed run and fight against the Indoraptor throughout the whole Mansion with some fun scenes you just have to laugh about. Am I am the only one that thinks that the Indoraptor just wanted to play Freddy Krueger?

The movie leaves the audience with a big moral dilemma—should the dinosaurs have been saved in the first place? Should they get another chance? Even Claire is struggling with this question until the very end and if it would not be for Maisie’s secret, they probably would not survive.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is a movie which can easily follow into the footsteps of the original trilogy. While the first Jurassic World movie felt more like a modern copy of Jurassic Park, but with the park actually open for the world, Fallen Kingdom takes up the idea Jurassic Park 2 where the dinosaurs lived on the neighbouring island, which is pretty much the idea the movie is going further from.

Overall, there is one question still hovering throughout the movie and afterwards: how far human kind would go with genetic technology. We will hopefully get that answer and a lot more in Jurassic World 3. After all, there is a new world with dinosaurs living amongst people.
