This summer the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) is sponsoring The Great American Read!
The Great American Read is a series that celebrates the importance of reading and examines the 100 best and most loved novels of America. Each episode includes interviews and testimonials from various authors, celebrities, and other influential Americans.
The series begins with a two-hour episode which introduces the top 100 books, and then continues with five one-hour episodes that focus on specific themes or common concepts.
If you’re located in the US, US Territories, or Canada, visit the website so you can cast your vote and see if your favourites are on the list!
The Great American Read website also has a book club devoted to reading and discussing the novels on Facebook. If you’re interested, be sure to join the Facebook book club, which has over 30000 members. There is also a page on the website for you to share your own story and tell which novel has had a significant influence on your life.
Lastly, by visiting The Great American Read website, you can take a quiz to see how many of the top 100 books you have read, and maybe get some suggestions for books to read in the future.
The first episode has already aired, but you can still catch up and view it in its entirety on the website. After the summer ends and voting wraps up, the series will continue to Tuesday, September 11th, with a “Fall Kick Off” episode.
