Ready for more Iron Fist? Marvel announced the second season premiere date at San Diego Comic Con 2018.
Prepare to block out the day or weekend around September 7th because that’s when you will be watching the second season of the Marvel and Netflix series! Accompanying the announcement was a short teaser which shows Danny fighting on the streets of New York. Judging by the teaser, and also from Marvel related series and films, Danny and the city will face some larger conflict and he will take it upon himself to protect the city.
The second season furthers the transformation of Danny, a character with a fish out of water coming of age story making his way in a harsh new world, battling to work out who he is. This season, Danny has promised that with Matt Murdock gone, he will step up and protect his city. But a sinister plot twist threatens his very identity and he must conquer his villains to protect the town and people he holds close to his heart.
While the date announcement shows little, con-goers were treated to a lot more footage, which sadly many won’t get to see for some time. Footage included a number of scenes displaying new fight choreography from Clayton Barber, who previously worked on Black Panther. One of those scenes includes Danny and Davos in a flashback to K’un Lun where the pair faced one of their final tests to determine who is worthy to face off against Shou-Lao. They then don masks, which are similar to that of Iron Fist‘s in the comics, before being bound together and then beating each other until one of them yields.
The first season wasn’t received well by critics with mixed feelings from viewers, so let’s hope they’ve found what direction to take the series in. That being said, the new season comes after the team up in The Defenders, which was followed by the second season of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. So perhaps, Danny will know what kind of hero he is or can become and this appears to be confirmed by Marvel’s Jeph Loeb who explained that fighting alongside Matt Murdock in The Defenders inspires Danny to use his abilities and become more of a vigilante.
Marvel’s Iron Fist Season 2 stars Finn Jones (Danny Rand), Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing), Sacha Dhawan (Davos), Tom Pelphrey (Ward Meachum), Jessica Stroup (Joy Meachum), Simone Missick (Misty Knight) and introduces Alice Eve (Mary Walker).
