Tippy toe, sneakin‘ up behind you. I’m Deadpool, do I have to remind you?
After the incredible success of Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds proves once more that he was born to be Wade Wilson.
The first movie ended with Wade being reunited with Vanessa and the sequel picks up right where we left off. The couple are together and happy, but somewhere in between Deadpool is killing people all over the world. Unfortunately, one of this jobs he takes home by accident, which ends with Vanessa being killed. Wade deals with her death the way he deals with everything in his life: in the most extreme way possible.
He gets picked up by Colossus (Stefan Kapicic) who brings him to the X-Mansion and offers him to be a part of the X-Men, or more like X-Men trainee.
The first mission for the small X-Men team, which includes Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Colossus and Deadpool, is to stop a teenage mutant by the name of Firefist (Julian Dennison) who is trying to burn down the orphanage he is living in since the headmaster takes pleasure in torturing and suppressing his mutant powers.
The whole thing ends with both Firefist and Wade being locked up in a Mutant prison with collars around their necks to suppress their powers. For Wade it means, he has “cancers to grow” while he’s waiting to get out.
Meanwhile, Cable (Josh Brolin) steps into the picture and he’s travelled from the future to the prison so he can kill the one who murdered his family: Firefist. While Wade can escape from prison after his fight with Cable, Firefist is making a new friend, which turns out to be Juggernaut whose first movie appearance was in X-Men: Last Stand.
Wade decides to build a team of his own: The X-Force. The team consists of Domino (Zazie Beetz), Shatterstar (Lewis Tan), Zeitgeist (Bill Skarsgard), Bedlam (Terry Crews), Vanisher (Brad Pitt), Peter (Rob Delaney) and of course, Dopinder (Karan Soni). Before any of you start freaking out over Brad Pitt, you literally only see his face for three seconds.
Towards the end, we are treated with two big fights: Cable and Deadpool against Firefist and Colossus against Juggernaut.
Just like the first, we’re treated to a lot of pop culture references and humour, including seeing Logan (Wolverine) in a music box. Thanks to Wade, he opens our eyes to realise that “Do You Want To Build A Snowman?” from Frozen sounds exactly like “Papa, Can You Hear Me?” from Yentl.
You’ll also have Cher’s “Turn Back Time” stuck in your head for days after mourning with Wade over the loss of George Michael and David Bowie. Plus you’ll also enjoy a short sing-along to “Tomorrow” from Annie and a flashback to the movie Say Anything with Wade standing in front of Colossus’ windows playing “In Your Eyes”.
You’re so dark, you sure you’re not from the DC Universe?
The movies marketing strategy was unlike anything else with it claiming to be a family movie, just like Bambi and The Lion King. However, before you think you can go taking your kids to the movie, think about the one thing these Disney classics have in common, plus uh, it’s got quite the high rating.
Not only are you treated to some great tunes, but you should also keep an eye out during the intro and credits as there’s some seriously fun things mixed in there.
Just like every Marvel movie, you can also play “Find Stan Lee” in Deadpool 2 along with searching for a bunch of great cameos. Not only are Brad Pitt and Hugh Jackman in the movie, but some of the younger X-Men have a very short appearance. Plus you’ll also see Wade in Xavier’s wheelchair and lending Cerebro.
If anyone was hoping for more Negasonic Teenage Warhead like me, you will be disappointed as there is not much you will see of her. However, we learn that she has a girlfriend by the name of Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna) and she can fix Cable’s time travel device.
The after credits scene is an essential to stick around for as Ryan Reynolds is making fun of everything and everyone and he doesn’t even stop when it comes to himself. Somehow he not only seems to prevent Vanessa’s death, he also kills 2009 Wolverine and Wade (because who needs him anymore), along with stopping him from accepting the role of Green Lantern.
If you are searching for a good movie that takes you far away from reality and you have no problem with seeing some bloody scenes and a lot of cursing, this is the perfect movie to watch!
