Five Films Author Constance Sayers Would Love to Get Transported Into

Guest post written by The Star and the Strange Moon author Constance Sayers
Constance Sayers is the author of the #1 Amazon best-selling novel,  A Witch in Time (2020 Redhook/Hachette) as well as The Ladies of the Secret Circus (2021 Redhook/Hachette) that received a starred review from Publishers Weekly.

The Star and the Strange Moon releases in paperback on April 16th 2024 and it’s a haunting tale of ambition, obsession, and the eternal mystery and magic of film.

In The Star and the Strange Moon, actress Gemma Turner is filming a horror film when she is transported inside the film itself where she fights to survive.  In thinking about the films that I wouldn’t mind finding myself inside, some of my favorites like the Harry Potter and Willy Wonka films are a bit too frightening (unless I was sure I’d be a character with a superpower)!

Here’s the list:

Lost in Austen (2008)

This series is one of the big influences behind The Star and the Strange Moon.  This mini-series stars Jemima Rooper as a modern-day Londoner who gets pulled into a time-swap with the Pride and Prejudice character, Elizabeth Bennet, who is tired of the confines of her Regency period.  I really love the Mr. Darcy of this series so it tops my list of films to get lost inside!

Groundhog Day (1993)

I grew up not far from Punxsutawney Pennsylvania, where the strange custom of weather prediction by a groundhog is major town event, so this film is special to me (although it was filmed in Woodstock, IL) I could stay in this time loop forever and Bill Murray’s self-centered weatherman is one of his best performances, IMO.

Practical Magic (1998)

The big screen adaptation of Alice Hoffman’s book about two witch sisters who are cursed in love just strikes about every element that I love in a story:  sisters, witches, romance, curses.

Daisy Jones and the Six (2023)

Oh the nineteen-seventies!  For four years, I was an on-air announcer for a classic rock radio station, so the folksy rock setting of this series based on Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel is so beautifully nostalgic for me.  From the clothes to the music this is the time period of my youth and I would love to find myself a member of this rock band!

Bridgerton (2020)

From the gorgeous gowns to the balls and the intrigue, I’d love to find myself catapulted inside this world.  I mean who wouldn’t love to dance with The Duke of Hastings!
