Cute YA Contemporary Books To Read

Cooped up inside? Need something light and fluffy to lift your mood? Just need something that isn’t a dark fantasy? You’re in the right spot! Here’s eight cute young adult contemporaries (both old and new) that you’ll be sure to love!

Cute YA Contemporary Books To Read
The Gravity of Us by Phil Stamper
Goodreads | Amazon | Book Depository

The Gravity of Us is one of the newest books on the YA block! Whilst this is mostly set in a NASA village, this definitely isn’t a sci-fi novel, I assure you! It features a wannabe young journalist who has to move to Texas from New York and struggles to fit into his new life until he meets this cute guy, Leon!

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
Goodreads | Amazon | Book Depository

An old favourite of mine, and hopefully a new favourite of yours! Whilst Rainbow’s well known for her Simon Snow books (I mean I love those too), this sweet little book had me swooning. This is a meet-cute filled with late night deep-and-meaningfuls and mix-tapes. Instant cute!

Tweet Cute by Emma Lord
Goodreads | Amazon | Book Depository

This book has social media feuds, food, and enemies-to-lovers. A combo that had me DEVOURING this book, and hopefully you’ll be just as hungry for this book. The main characters are also very much so different and are super fun to read about!

Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales
Goodreads | Amazon | Book Depository

Also a new book on the block, this book has been described everywhere as an adorable LGBT+ Grease retelling. This coming-of-age book is super adorable stemming from a summer fling to pretending the other doesn’t really exist, to finding that they go to the same school after Will moves into the town! It has music, drama, and friendship and left me swooning for more!

Cute YA Contemporary Books To Read
Toffee by Sarah Crossan
Goodreads | Amazon | Book Depository

Whilst this is a book written in verse, it is also super sweet! Allison finds an old lady’s house to stay in after running away. The old lady, Marla, has dementia and mistakes Allison for her old friend, Toffee. Marla and Allison’s bond grows and it’s super adorable to read, whilst Allison questions both her identity and what is friends and family. Whilst at times, this one’s a little bittersweet, it has a lot more cute moments than bittersweet moments and I’m sure you’ll love it too!

Yes No Maybe So by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed
Goodreads | Amazon | Book Depository

A political rom-com that has an awkward boy that meets a shy girl? A cute match indeed! Whilst this book will make you laugh and cry at times, you’ll be sure to be rooting for our mains Jamie and Maya to realise their feelings as quickly as you’ll be sure to finish this one!

It Sounded Better in My Head by Nina Kenwood
Goodreads | Amazon | Book Depository

An Australian coming-of-age book, this one also explores identity and friendship, as well as body image. Not only does Natalie, our main protagonist lose her long-time crush to her best friend, but then a mysterious person shows up in her life. Does this person give her the romance she deserves? Trust me, this one’s quick and cute read and you’ll love it too!

We Come Apart by Sarah Crossan and Brian Conaghan
Goodreads | Amazon | Book Depository

In this cute two points of view verse novel, an immigrant boy meets a girl who’s life is overshadowed by violence. The bond that develops is adorable and you’ll be swooning for both Jess and Nicu by the end, I promise!

Hopefully some of these books entice you to embrace some of the cute contemporaries that the young adult market have to offer! I loved each of these so much, so I hope you do too! We all need the warm fuzzies and swoons whilst being holed up inside.
