YALC London 2018

YALC is the UK’s young adult literature convention, and this year it will be held from Friday July 27th – Sunday July 29th. The convention prides itself on being a celebration of the very best young adult books and authors, bringing together fans and writers alike over one amazing weekend. The event began in 2014 as Malorie Blackman’s major project as Waterstone’s Children’s Laureate 2013-2015 and has become one of the biggest events on the avid reader’s calendar. As YALC is over three days, it’s hard for many young people on a tight budget to decide whether to go. But to help you make up your mind, here are 5 reasons you should come to YALC this year!

1. Great Authors

YALC is no stranger to hosting some of the best-known authors in the Young Adult world! Malorie Blackman will of course be making an appearance, but other authors including Melissa Albert (The Hazel Wood), Chloe Seager (Editing Emma) and Gayle Forman (I Have Lost My Way) will be among many who will be signing and handing out advanced copies of new novels. The full list can be found on the YALC Twitter if none of these amazing authors can convince you!

2. Want To Get Into The Industry?

The publishing industry is ever-expanding and bursting with great career paths for all abilities and qualifications. If a job in this area is a big goal of yours, then paying YALC a visit may be a good idea! Many industry workers join panels and the floor to talk to members of the public about the best paths for them and great contacts. If this sounds like something you need, then maybe attending would be a great idea for you this summer.

3. Amazing People

As a bookstagram blogger myself, I know that many of your favourite social media members will be making an appearance to pick up some amazing deals and chat to other bloggers and their favourite authors. If you have a love for some of the bookstagram or booktube accounts, this could be your chance to meet with them in person and talk about how they got to where they are today. On top of this, you will be able to meet fellow book lovers and make some great connections for future meet ups and chats about your favourite novels.

4. Once In A Lifetime Talks

YALC is not only known for its large groups of budding authors, but it is also known for hosting some if the most magical and insane talks you will find at any event! With workshops ranging from writing with tarot cards to an all-out Potter Party. The full schedule can be found here if you plan on only coming for one day, but these workshops promise to be one in a million!

5. Books, Books, Books! (and cheap too)

Everyone loves a good discount, and where better than the world of YALC. With advanced copies, signed books, and sudden giveaways you could find yourself getting your hands on some exclusive pieces for a great price. With books averaging around £4 this is a great price for someone with a bit of a book addiction.
