Ready for some laughs and truth about getting older? Netflix’s latest Original series The Kominsky Method comes from The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre and stars the brilliant Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin.
The sun isn’t setting yet on the once famous Sandy Kominsky and his longtime agent Norman Newlander. Academy Award® Winners Michael Douglas (Kominsky) and Alan Arkin (Newlander) star as two friends tackling life’s inevitable curveballs as they navigate their later years in Los Angeles, a city that values youth and beauty. Both comedic and emotional, The Kominsky Method is an 8-episode, half-hour single camera show created by 8-time Emmy Award Nominee Chuck Lorre.
At the Television Critics Association press tour in July, the show creator and actors spoke of the new Netflix series.
“The show began because of my desire to write about what I’m living, which is getting older and entropy and the decay of the flesh,” said Lorre in a TCA panel. “It has to be funny, otherwise it’s heartbreaking. There’s loss of loved ones and how it affects your relationships and friendships. How do you respond to a culture that feels like it’s moving away from you? That was the impetus for the show — to do all that, and hopefully have some comedy involved.”
Douglas spoke of being drawn to Lorre’s writing and script with its mix of comedy and tragedy. He also expressed his frustrations with the feature business.
“The movies that I used to do, the character-driven indie movies, I was frustrated with the lack of distribution. You’d end up watching the moves play in a theater for 7 days and go right to streaming,” said Douglas. “So i love this medium of streaming.”
The Kominsky Method is written by Al Higgins, David Javerbaum, and Chuck Lorre, who also directed the first episode. Lorre, Higgins, and Michael Douglas executive produce the series which is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc. in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Starring Michael Douglas (Ant-Man), Alan Arkin (Little Miss Sunshine), Nancy Travis (Last Man Standing), and Sarah Baker (Big Little Lies), with guest spots from Lisa Edelstein (Girlfriends’ Guide To Divorce), Danny DeVito, and Susan Sullivan (Castle).
The Kominsky Method drops on Netflix on November 16th.
