Team Cockroach is back! This network sitcom about moral philosophy has won hearts across the world with its quirky yet funny characters and story. Ever since the creator of The Good Place shared a few stills from the series online, the fans have been going into frenzy wondering ‘What the fork is happening here?’
At San Diego Comic Con, the cast were pretty tight-lipped about what to expect. They did play the first two minutes of it where we see Michael getting approval from an entity known as ‘The Guard’ to travel down to earth and reverse the deaths of the four lead characters.
Here are a few things that you should look forward to this season and questions that remain unanswered at the end of season 2. Naturally, if you haven’t watched the first two seasons, do yourself a favour and get your forkin’ binge on!
Are Eleanor and Chidi really alive again or is this just another one of Michael’s simulations?
Team Cockroach has landed on Earth in an attempt to fix their lives and themselves. Considering how in season one, the major twist was how Michael tricked Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani, and Jason into thinking they’re in the good place. However, creator Michael Schur confirmed it wasn’t a simulation but is in fact “the four of them are straight-up back on Earth, in a new timeline where they didn’t die.” The next shot is then Michael grumbling about “the traffic” and “pigeons”.
What happens to Jason and Tahani?
The overachieving Tahani and the sweet brainless Jason were both sent back to Earth along with Chidi and Eleanor. Later, we see how Eleanor escape near death and ends up meeting Chidi. But what happens to the other two? What turns are their lives going to take? All answers to Jason and Tahani’s story lie in the episodes of season 3.
Is there a Good Place? What does it actually look like?
Other than the illusion that Michael builds to trick the four humans to make them believe they’re in the Good Place in the afterlife. We’re never shown what the Good Place actually looks like nor given any idea of what it would be like. All we can do now is wait for the fog to lift off.
How do the others survive?
We’re shown in the last episode of season 2, how Eleanor escapes death. This season (hopefully) we will get to see how Tahani, Jason, and Chidi escape their funny yet tragic deaths.
Who are the real soulmates?
After the constant erase and reboot and the 802 failed simulations, even we are left confused over who would end up with whom in the end. Would it be Eleanor and Chidi? Jason and Tahani? Derek and Janet? Jason and Janet? Eleanor and Tahani? Or would it be someone new, whom they’ll meet the real Good Place? The question remains unanswered.
What on Earth?
In the finale, we saw Eleanor struggling to be a good person. She tracks down Chidi in Australia after being coaxed by Michael to watch one of his lectures, placing too much hope in her morality saviour. Meanwhile, Michael and Janet keep an eye on everyone’s deeds back on earth sitting in the afterlife. Will they find a way to get them into the good place or are more troubles knocking their way in!
We will find out when season three premieres today on NBC! And for international fans, you’ll be able to watch it weekly on Netflix.
