After a too long break of two weeks, The Gifted is back. However, with a cliffhanger like this, they could have at least aired another episode right after because now this next week will be hell! This week’s flashback shows us what lies behind the relationship between Reeva and Benedict Ryan. Four years ago she went to see him when he was still a radio anchor in a small town and so she blackmails him and promises him a place on TV.

In the present, we see what Reeva gains from this. She gives him information about mutant hideouts so that he can send in the Purifiers and clear the space out. This helps her in gaining angry mutants and to have more powerful mutants on her side to take down humankind. This time she gives Ryan the information where he can find the Murlocks. Ryan wants Turner in charge of this raid and tells him that the Murlocks are the worst of the worst. After Turner finds the secret passageway, everything goes down a very wrong and unexpected way.
In the meantime, Reeva and the Frost sisters find out that Max is dead and are putting the HQ under lockdown. They think that they found the traitor in Sage because when Lorna logged into the computer, she did it with Sage’s password. However, because Sage’s mind consists of ones and zeros, like a computer, the sisters cannot look into her head and prove that it was not her who looked up Max on the surveillance cameras. Lorna has to live on with the fact that she has Sage’s blood on her hands because Reeva kills her.

On the other side of town, the serum and the X gene are fighting against each other in Lauren’s body. The injection is suppressing her powers just for a short period of time and when Caitlin found out about it, let’s just say she is not amused. In her feverish delirium, Lauren talks in German. For me, whose mother tongue is German, I can tell you that it was no German I was able to understand at all. Lauren learns that it was stupid to try to suppress her powers so she decided to not take the serum again and wants to confront the reality with a new perspective. She wants to help and fight.
With his daughter leading by example, Reed decides that it is finally time to use his powers as well, after all, they have been given to him for a reason so he should not try to outrun them, right? Congratulations, you finally understood it Reed, only took you a couple of months and all my nerves.

Marcos recovers from getting shot and fortunately, those wounds are not serious but his mind cannot relax because he is waiting for word from Lorna to know if she is okay. John checks on him and they talk about the reasons their women have left them when Clarice calls Marcos. She informs him that the purifiers are in the tunnels and that she is evacuating as many mutants as she can but she needs help to bring them into a new safe space. This sees everyone driving to the meeting spot and John sees Clarice for the first time after a long time.
They try to fit as many people as they can to in two cars and tell the other in which direction they should run to get away from the Purifiers. After a short drive, Caitlin is surrounded by police cars. With no other possibility to get away, no mutant with fight experience and Lauren who is still too weak, she takes it into her own hands and drives the car through the police barricade and brings everyone to safety.

“Clarice looks the things I said and I did maybe someday when we … this is over… Next time you call me I will always come.”
I guess this would make a nice scene which would shout “Happy Valentine’s Day”, unfortunately, we do not get to see them back together. Clarice is able to save almost every mutant from the tunnels and she goes back to take Erg and a little girl with her through the last tunnel she forms when she gets shot in the back a couple of times by Turner. Are you serious? You are doing the same thing as in Season 1? Please, if that is a pattern, then we have a problem.

I am really happy that Reed decides to embrace his mutant powers and cannot wait to hopefully see him in action. On the other hand, I am not prepared for the next episode because I do not want a confirmation on Clarice’s death. However, if she survives I want to know how.
