The last episode of the second season of The Gifted has aired and we definitely have someone to mourn over, but not the person we expected to. Reed makes the ultimate sacrifice, accepting that he has powers and using them – or more like not having control over them – and leaves the world in hopes for a better future for all people.

In general, this episode felt like a goodbye to Reed from the start. We see the Struckers 5 years ago watching the news about July 15th, the mutant attack which leaves everybody in shock. It shows how Reed has changed from fighting against mutants to sacrificing himself for mutants.

Reeva is not really bothered by Loran and Andy’s so-called-betrayal because there will be another way to succeed and sends the Purifiers to the apartment building to kill them. There our mutants have only 24 hours to stop Reeva’s plan to destroy Sentinel Services and all other government buildings. There are no other stations of the mutant underground to call because there is no one left who is willing to fight. Lorna sees what she helped do and feels responsible for their deaths and is willing to stop Reeva at any cost to make up for it.

Unfortunately, the Frost Sisters kidnapped Lauren and Andy, while the others prepared for leaving the building. So when the others have to go after them, John creates a distraction and putting on his comic-inspired outfit. This makes me so happy to see because after fighting alone against the Purifiers – shout out to Blair Redford for this amazing fight scene – he gets wounded very badly. Erg finds him and offers him help, for Clarice’s sake, and he starts calling himself Thunderbird. A mutant name does not need to be anything bad, right?

One mutant vs. The Purifiers. #TheGifted @Blair_Redford pic.twitter.com/zkeKRIJOJE

The Frost triplets are mind controlling Lauren and Andy and succeed in forcing them to bring down the Sentinel Services HQ. Just minutes afterwards, their friends find them and thanks to Lorna who talks sense into the already doubting Esme, they are able to bring them to safety.

This brings us to the end of Reed’s journey as a mutant. After Lorna says that everything stays and falls with Reeva, Reed goes up into the penthouse to face her alone. She uses her power on him after calling him a complete disappointment to the Von Strucker family and this, as expected, does not force Reed to suppress his powers, but they are even more out of control. His powers take over completely and Reed explodes and takes half of the building with him.

Reeva said she wanted to see the power of the Von Struckers… #TheGifted @smoyer @LadyGraceByers pic.twitter.com/caP1NjpF07

Reeva is defeated and there is new light on the world. While Cate, Lauren, and Andy mourn Reed, Lorna and Marcos are reunited with Dawn/Aurora and Erg and John become friends. Esme seems to have separated herself from her sisters and forces Benedict Ryan to tell the truth to the media about his role in the mutant attacks, and so the Purifiers are no more.

Have faith in family.

Thank you for joining us for Season 2 of #TheGifted. pic.twitter.com/xXdIqhtU2F

What about Turner? Every time I write my hopes for him down, he does the exact opposite in the following episode. It is frustrating! Why does he still acts that way when he clearly sees that it is not the right way to change anything?

The Gifted leaves us with a cliffhanger, which is great and shocking at the same time. John senses Clarice and a couple of seconds later, she jumps through a portal, looking nothing like before and with improved powers.

We see a bit trough the portal and you can see buildings burning, it looks like a big attack took place wherever Clarice came from. So where does this lead us for a potential third season? Can Clarice now jump into the future? Is this a new mutant uprising attack? Or is this in another town where mutants have been inspired to make a move against humans or the other way around?

Blink lives. #TheGifted pic.twitter.com/s7nI5INOOL

The show leaves us with no real clues as to what could come next and where our beloved mutants will find themselves, now that no one is after them. It is possible that we will see them form even a new X-Men group. We have a lot of time to think about it and hope that we will see them again in the Fall.

Lost, love, and hope. The emotions of our mutants are all over the place and this rollercoaster of an episode does not really give us straight answers.

All we want to know first is, is Clarice really dead? Well maybe, maybe not. Until next week, this is still something that is free to be interpreted by the audience individually. Of course, Clarice’s, let’s call it disappearance until we know what really happened to her, is the hardest for John. This episode’s flashback shows Clarice and John two months ago, talking in the middle of the night. Clarice tells John that after running all her life she finally feels lucky even though she thinks she does not deserve to be.

Whenever you need to get away… #TheGifted @jamiechung1 pic.twitter.com/OgdHcTTyRC

Before Marcos and Reed are going to rescue Cate and Lauren who are surrounded by the police after they drove through a barricade, they go looking for John who still is in the same alley where Clarice teleported the Morlocks to and punches a wall repeatedly.

While Marcos tries to calm John and convince him to go home, Reed is taking a look around the neighbourhood and runs into Ted, Turner’s little helper. Reed’s powers are manifesting and before Ted can shoot him, he first grabs his gun and later touches him and Ted turns into a pile of dust.

Meanwhile, Turner starts to feel guilty and it seems that this time the guilt wins over his broken heart. He questions why Ryan would send the purifiers to a place where a lot of children are living. It is not said that these children would turn out to be “monsters” and “terrorists” when they grow up.

Jace is starting to realize who he is working for. #TheGifted @imcobybell pic.twitter.com/worxUE1YY6

Sadly, we learn why Reeva wanted the purifiers to raid the tunnels because from there they can enter into a government building which is Reeva’s plan. In the next 24 hours, she wants to destroy as many government buildings as possible and bring the uprising to its peak.

While Lorna is looking for the perfect timing to leave the Inner Circle for good, Andy still believes in every word Reeva says. But Lorna cannot leave Andy behind especially because Reed begs her to bring his son home with her.

But first, they'll have to destroy everything. #TheGifted @SkylerSamuels pic.twitter.com/RIJhLpLXIX

Lorna tells Andy what she discovered about Reeva. She still wants a mutant homeland but not like that. Not when it needs the Frost sisters to mind control people to believe in it. Andy is clearly confused and afraid that after what he did during his time in the Inner Circle he does not belong with his family anymore.

It's not too late for you, Andy. #TheGifted pic.twitter.com/5znJHuNMmZ

With the season finale next week there are a couple of questions which would be nice to get answers to. Now that Reed accepts his powers and wants to train them, I cannot stop thinking about the fact how great it would be if randomly Rogue would make an appearance and help him. After all, she went through a similar struggle and Anna Paquin, who played her in the X-Men movies, is Stephen Moyer’s wife.

One of the important ones for sure is Clarice. John says she fell through her portal when she got shot, which means she is trapped somewhere in the space-time continuum and probably too weak to open a new portal and go out of it. John still feels her and every time he tries to use his powers he only senses her. It could be that when she found her way back to John that we will see a new Blink with improved powers, stronger than before.

Still seeing visions of Blink. #TheGifted @Blair_Redford pic.twitter.com/wta0aEqp5s

This episode saw a little bit of seeing a happy end, which I doubt will stay that way for long. Two families reunite. The Struckers have Andy back and Marcos has Lorna. Only Dawn is missing.

Polaris has officially left the Inner Circle. #TheGifted @EmmaDumont @seanjteale pic.twitter.com/9sj1C45H4F

The episode ends with all of them being there for John and he forgives Lorna for turning her back on him. Seconds before, he calls for Blink and she answers. I bet with you that she will make her comeback in the season finale and surprise us all.

Now that Lorna and Andy “betrayed” Reeva she wants them dead. After all their participation had only a symbolic meaning because it would be so much better to build a new world with representatives from two legendary mutant families.

As much as I cannot wait for the season finale, I am also afraid what cliffhanger it also could bring. After all season three has still not be confirmed!

However, with a cliffhanger like this, they could have at least aired another episode right after because now this next week will be hell! This week’s flashback shows us what lies behind the relationship between Reeva and Benedict Ryan. Four years ago she went to see him when he was still a radio anchor in a small town and so she blackmails him and promises him a place on TV.

In the present, we see what Reeva gains from this. She gives him information about mutant hideouts so that he can send in the Purifiers and clear the space out. This helps her in gaining angry mutants and to have more powerful mutants on her side to take down humankind. This time she gives Ryan the information where he can find the Murlocks. Ryan wants Turner in charge of this raid and tells him that the Murlocks are the worst of the worst. After Turner finds the secret passageway, everything goes down a very wrong and unexpected way.

In the meantime, Reeva and the Frost sisters find out that Max is dead and are putting the HQ under lockdown. They think that they found the traitor in Sage because when Lorna logged into the computer, she did it with Sage’s password. However, because Sage’s mind consists of ones and zeros, like a computer, the sisters cannot look into her head and prove that it was not her who looked up Max on the surveillance cameras. Lorna has to live on with the fact that she has Sage’s blood on her hands because Reeva kills her.

On the other side of town, the serum and the X gene are fighting against each other in Lauren’s body. The injection is suppressing her powers just for a short period of time and when Caitlin found out about it, let’s just say she is not amused. In her feverish delirium, Lauren talks in German. For me, whose mother tongue is German, I can tell you that it was no German I was able to understand at all. Lauren learns that it was stupid to try to suppress her powers so she decided to not take the serum again and wants to confront the reality with a new perspective. She wants to help and fight.

With his daughter leading by example, Reed decides that it is finally time to use his powers as well, after all, they have been given to him for a reason so he should not try to outrun them, right? Congratulations, you finally understood it Reed, only took you a couple of months and all my nerves.

Marcos recovers from getting shot and fortunately, those wounds are not serious but his mind cannot relax because he is waiting for word from Lorna to know if she is okay. John checks on him and they talk about the reasons their women have left them when Clarice calls Marcos. She informs him that the purifiers are in the tunnels and that she is evacuating as many mutants as she can but she needs help to bring them into a new safe space. This sees everyone driving to the meeting spot and John sees Clarice for the first time after a long time.

They try to fit as many people as they can to in two cars and tell the other in which direction they should run to get away from the Purifiers. After a short drive, Caitlin is surrounded by police cars. With no other possibility to get away, no mutant with fight experience and Lauren who is still too weak, she takes it into her own hands and drives the car through the police barricade and brings everyone to safety.

I guess this would make a nice scene which would shout “Happy Valentine’s Day”, unfortunately, we do not get to see them back together. Clarice is able to save almost every mutant from the tunnels and she goes back to take Erg and a little girl with her through the last tunnel she forms when she gets shot in the back a couple of times by Turner. Are you serious? You are doing the same thing as in Season 1? Please, if that is a pattern, then we have a problem.

I am really happy that Reed decides to embrace his mutant powers and cannot wait to hopefully see him in action. On the other hand, I am not prepared for the next episode because I do not want a confirmation on Clarice’s death. However, if she survives I want to know how.

Fellow mutants, what is on your mind after this week’s episode? After the previous one bringing nothing new, this one feels like it’s speeding forward in a good way. It is not possible to put everything about every character into a season and to do them justice, so I am always happy to learn the tiniest bit about them.

This week’s focus is on Erg. It’s no surprise that he does not trust humans and wants the morlocks to stay together after being betrayed by his human girlfriend who sold him to Sentinal Services.

Now you know… #TheGifted @MichaelLuwoye pic.twitter.com/T062Ok2JVH

This brings me to how Erg treats Clarice. He is so strict about rules and everything. How come, after a week of being with the morlocks, she still doesn’t have an M on her cheek? So the big guy does not have a stone cold heart beating in his chest after all. Clarice seems to feel kind of guilty for spending so much time on the surface and makes up for it with helping getting supplies. During their trip to a store at night, Glow gets shot and certainly will die, if no one with expertise will save her.

Erg thinks that everyone who leaves the tunnels for just one second will betray them, so Clarice decides to ask Kate and Marcos for help. While Marcos gives Glow a blood transfusion to stabilise her, Kate, Clarice, and Erg to the clinic to get some supplies she needs to save Glow.

Who knew a transfusion could be so magical? #TheGifted pic.twitter.com/TsfRiUKFJQ

They get surprised by the Purifiers and Erg witnesses himself that Kate is on their side and would never betray them. He lets his action speak for him and gives Kate an M of ashes on her cheek to make her an honourable mutant. It is a very touching gift, which touched me.

Sadly, not everyone can experience harmony this week. John calls a small meeting with some members of the underground, but no one wants to listen to him. They are all afraid to fight. Am I am the only one who is wondering where they came from? We did not get any answers about if anyone survived the attack on the big secret meeting.

The most interesting plot in this episode is the decision Lauren makes. Reed tells her the story of the Erlking which his father told him when he was a child and his theory that his he tried to warn him about the darkness in their family.

Lauren tries to stay awake so Andy cannot visit her in her dreams, she is afraid of what this could do to her. I am not sure if listening to the music box, which she thinks is comforting her or helps her tired mind. She does fall asleep for a bit and the Frost Sisters immediately try to convince her to join the Inner Circle. Lauren does what she thinks she has to do and runs away.

Lauren is avoiding sleep until further notice. #TheGifted @NatalieAlynLind pic.twitter.com/0bOiwjVrGb

This was not meant to be the solution. Reed and John are going after her. It does look funny when a grown up guy touches the street, lamp, and hydrant to pick up a trace. Shame that they did not show how the people around him reacted to it. It would have been quite a fun scene in the middle of all this darkness.

She won't get far with Thunderbird on the trail. #TheGifted @Blair_Redford pic.twitter.com/PRj4D4GFp4

Eventually they find Lauren and Reed is able to convince her to go back with them, telling her that he knows the darkness which is calling her and offers her a solution. Well, it has to be a temporary one, right? I mean, she takes the injection which are supposed to be for Reed and immediately is disconnected to Andy and her powers. I do not like it. I need badass Lauren back immediately!

Don't miss a new episode of #TheGifted in two weeks. pic.twitter.com/FSbak7tDa2

John still has to process the break up, while Lorna and Marcos are back together, yay. But they do not have time to celebrate because Lorna found out what the next big mission for the terror trio is. They should bring down important buildings: the White House, the Pentagon, and Sentinel Services HQs.

Lorna you are not alone, I am afraid too. After Marcos hears of it, he decided to go down the path of his past and wants to kidnap one of them. This ends badly as expected. Marcos gets shot and because his blood is pure fire, the car takes fire and explodes after Marcos was able to get out in time. With that ending, I cannot wait for next week’s episode!

Last weeks episode left us with a big cliffhanger, but this episode felt more like it stepped away from our main storyline to bring in new little plots that I for one don’t think were needed.

14 years ago Clarice escaped from her foster home with her foster sister as that home only took in mutants since they get some extra money for them. When they escaped, her sister went back to save the other children and gets killed. This trauma leads to a choice she makes today.

Lorna and Marcos split up after watching Reeva meeting with Benedict Ryan. Even though Lorna does not want to go back to the Inner Circle, she thinks it is wiser if she goes back to find out things on the upcoming mission. At the last second, she finds out that the terror trio are on their way to kill Evangeline.

Desperately trying to figure out the plan… #TheGifted @EmmaDumont pic.twitter.com/eTXeOph9d8

— The Gifted (@TheGifted_TV) January 16, 2019

After his injuries, John should stay in bed, but he is up and supports Evangeline as good as he can. Meanwhile, Clarice, John, and Marcos pick up Erg and are on their way to the meeting spot. What they find is a house on fire and a lot of body bags in it, which the entire national leadership of the underground is. If that would not be enough, John wants to go down there and search for survivors even if it means to expose himself. This brings him into a fight with Erg, which basically started over Clarice’s mutant name, Blink.

I mentioned Clarice’s hard childhood earlier, which has an impact on her current situation. She cannot stand by anyone’s side and watch them die. So she decides to leave and live with the morlocks from now on.

Blink is doing what's best for her. #TheGifted @jamiechung1 pic.twitter.com/ORnKNfXaD1

— The Gifted (@TheGifted_TV) January 16, 2019

To be honest, I do not know what this episode was supposed to show us. Not much happened and we are not really any step further into the story.

At the moment, it seems that Evangeline died. But if you didn’t see it onscreen, did it really happen? We learned a bit about Evangeline and Erg’s relationship. She saved his live a long time ago and after the mutant attack of 7/15, they both founded the underground. They worked together until a human ally betrayed them, after that day they went down different paths.I hope she lives because I would love to hear more about her relationship with Lorna.

The one side story I really don’t think was needed was Caitlin’s idea about seeing her brother and asking him for help. He betrayed them and lead Sentinel Services to them. What was the point of that again?

The more interesting part concerning the Strucker’s was the music box as Lauren translated the letter from German to English. While Reed is alone at home, he opens the music box and starts to remember that he found this box when he was a kid. He finds the letter and his powers appear. The music seems to have an impact on the Strucker DNA. After all the letter continues saying that the Strucker’s have the will to power and they should embrace it, it is their destiny.

The episode ends with Andy going to bed with the Frost sisters beside him. They want to reach through Andy’s head into his dream to contact Lauren to join the Inner Circle.

I hope that the next episode will give us more answers about Reeva and Mr. Ryan as well as the real deal about Fenris. My personal wish, I need Clarice back with John! #ThunderBlinkForever

This week’s episode was a little lacklustre, but with the season’s finale being not too far away, it is starting to get quite tense!

It looks like this episode is setting up an upcoming storyline as firstly we learn something important about Fenris. In 1985 New Orleans, Andreas is picking up his sister’s music box after some modification. Lauren is obsessed with this box and listens to the music all the time while doing research about her ancestors. She even falls asleep while listening to it and her dream turns out to be a vision from the past when Fenris last fought. In her sleep she shouts discs of air through the apartment which catches the landlord’s attention.

This is a bad time to be in the spotlight, because now that the purifiers have started with their raids. Speaking of, Turner is on a current raid himself in a shelter for homeless children. Fear can blind people, which is the reason why his partner shoots one mutant child because he got a nervous finger on the trigger. Turner fights with himself because he knows that the kid did nothing wrong, however he chose to cover the truth. My friend, there is a difference between criminals, terrorists, and good old racism.

Meanwhile, Johnny is still sedated while the other discuss what they can do to stop the mutant uprising. As Clarice puts it, they cannot start a war with just the four of them, so they need some serious help, but no one is interested in fighting.

After some negative talk, Marcos drives to the next hiding spot from the underground when he loses control over the car because Lorna took over. Marcos takes his chance to tell Lorna exactly how he feels about her, which was long overdue.

But she is not there to talk about their relationship, she needs his help to stop Reeva’s next mission. There are new recruits, ex prisoners, and mass murderers at the HQ from the Inner Circle. They have killed over 1000 people on a ship and Reeva takes everyone in who would help her kill humans once and for all. This goes too far for Lorna who do not want to cross this line to build a peaceful future for her daughter.

When Marcos comes back home, he and Clarice decide to see the Morlocks and ask them for help, but first he apologises to Clarice for suspecting her to work against the underground and cheating on John. Obviously, Erg refuses to help because this is not his fight, but he can help with some information.

The episode ends with Lorna and Marcos going after Reeva and witnessing that she meets Benedict Ryan, the anchorman who is the head of the purifiers. Did anyone see that coming? I did not and I cannot wait for Reeva’s explanation!

There are some things that will keep us thinking until the next episode airs, such as Lauren finding a hidden message in the music box, written by Andreas in German, that it is now on the next generation to continue their fight. Somehow, the music has an impact on Lauren’s personality, because she starts to get reckless, aggressive, and with no remorse. To put it short, she starts to act like Reeva. Will the season end with Fenris standing united on the wrong side?

Side note: The music box is playing an ballade called “The Erlking” by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, which tells the story about an evil king who steals children. You can read more about the poem every child in German speaking countries has to memorise during their education here.

Then we have Turner, for whom I impatiently wait to change sides, because he proves that he has no problem with mutants “as long as they follow the law”. But to finally see his mistakes, he has to put down what blinds him and rethink his whole situation. At least he sees himself not worthy of his wife, who calls him after she saw him on the news as a hero for “saving human children from an attempt attack by a mutant child in a shelter for homeless children”. No his daughter Grace would not be proud of her daddy.

John might have slept through the whole episode, but it was worth it for the few minutes he was awake. Finally, he confesses his love to Clarice, somehow, and admits that the reason for his actions is that he is scared of coming close to someone because he is scared to lose someone he loves again.

This moment is “ruined” by Evangeline, who calls all the original leaders of the underground, which starts collapsing completely. She apologises to John for not believing him and gathers everyone to prepare to fight.

The last thing I want to address is Reeva saying to Lorna, “You are royalty. There job is to destroy. Yours is to build from the ashes.” I would love to hear them say Magneto’s name out loud and how exactly this “building” and “ashes” look like.

Happy New Year and it’s certainly a good start to the year for us mutant friends. The Gifted is back with an action packed episode, which sees the flashback showing us the “three musketeers” – Lorna, John, and Marcos playing pool at a bar three years ago in Atlanta. John addresses the others that he knows that they are together and reminds them that their fight will not be an easy one and one day they will depend on each other.

Unfortunately John was right. At the end of the last episode he was captured by the Purifiers. Turner puts him in chains and demands answers about the mutant underground and the terrorist attacks. John tells him it is actually the opposite; they are fighting for freedom and against the mutant uprising. So Turner turns John’s mutant power, super hearing, against him and tortures him with heavy metal music through headphones.

Jace might do a little bit more than talking. #TheGifted @imcobybell pic.twitter.com/st0ozAN2OP

John then tells Turner the truth, that the Inner Circle is behind everything and that Lorna and Andy have changed their loyalty, because “he couldn’t make them believe”. Turner finally believes what John is saying, but right in that moment Lorna and Marcos are halfway through the area starting the attack on the purifiers to rescue John.

Meanwhile, the Strucker’s are on their way back home when Marcos calls them to come back and tells them what has happened. Marcos has called everyone on the mutant underground, but those who picked up, don’t know anything about where John could be held. Then Marcos has the idea to ask the Inner Circle for help and use Faint and his phone to call Lorna.

Marcos knows if they don’t help him John would die because he would never talk about the underground. Back at the Inner Circle HQ, Lorna starts to search for John and tells Andy about it. They decide to help their former friends behind Reeva and the Frost sisters’ back.

When they arrive, there are some mixed emotions as Kate and Reed are happy to see Andy and have their hopes up that he could come back for good, while Lauren is distant. Clarice doesn’t know what to think about it and Marcos just wants to get it over with.

A lot has happened and some things are clearer now. Turner is a broken man who, behind his emotional wall still suffers from losing his daughter and his wife, losing his future. I do think that he is blinded by it and therefore the purifiers seem to be the solution for him. “We are protecting people who do not want to be protected and we are both paying for it”, is what Turner says to John and I think there is a bit of truth in it. After Lorna pops up on the surveillance camera, he loses it and has a breakdown in which he shoots John several times. One more time and he would have been dead.

Thunderbird isn't the one who runs a hate group, after all. #TheGifted @Blair_Redford pic.twitter.com/DWv0otwGRY

And here we have a twist. Mr and Mrs Strucker think that since Andy reaches out through his dreams to Lauren, that he is there to help rescue John and stay for good. However, they then witness how Andy gets very angry – to put it lightly – and starts to act like Rebecca. He almost kills one of the purifiers who wanted to shoot Lauren in the back.

Feeling disconnected from the rest of the Struckers. #TheGifted pic.twitter.com/7PLXNBjePK

In the end, we see Andy and Lauren train, each of them preparing for something different. Fenris divided. Andy, to kill everyone who wants to harm mutants. Lauren, to destroy the Inner Circle because that is the only way to get Andy back. To be honest, a behaviour like that does not disappear because an organisation is gone. I think, it could be too late to get this idealism out of his head.

My favourite scene was between Lorna and Marcos as they were both trying to hate each other but they were actually doing quite the opposite. “We love each other, we always will, but we will never see eye to eye about what we believe,” is how Lorna puts it. But, I do not think that real love can be torn apart just because of political attitude forever.

Love never dies. #Eclaris pic.twitter.com/7olpyaUbsH

Thanks to Marcos we have learned that “they are just cars, Andy. They have 4 doors and they drive,” no matter if those cars are full with weapons and bulletproof vests and Clarice watching over John and have to wait for the next episodes to know how he is.

A lot happened during the last episode of The Gifted for 2018 and it gave us a lot of questions and answers, and now we have a whole four weeks to wait.

Let’s start with the most important storyline which comes to an end in this episode. We saw Fade catching Rebecca at the end of the last episode. Now back at the HQ, Reeva has put Rebecca into a box of darkness which constantly moves so that she cannot use her powers. When it comes to Rebecca Reeva is stone cold. The only reason she does not get rid of her for good is because Reeva still needs her.

When it comes to questioning the Inner Circle, Lorna and Andy are like a ping-pong game. This time, it is Andy’s turn again. With the intention of running away with Rebecca, he frees her from the box, but she has another plan in her mind. She wants revenge. Before Rebecca can kill Reeva, the Frost Sisters and Lorna, Andy accidentally kills her when he smashes her against the wall.

Lorna tries to make Andy understand that Rebecca came out of the restrain facility as a broken person, but looking at the little flashback scene in the beginning of this episode, she was a little psycho even before. After she tried to kill her teacher, her parents called Sentinel Services who took her away.

Meanwhile, Lauren tells her parents about what Dr. Risman really is looking for. She does not want to just block the X gene, but turn it of entirely. Basically she wants to safe the human race because mutants have no right to live because her powers can be a curse. Well, it depends from which side you look at it, right? As thankful as Noah is for Dr. Risman’s help, he never wanted to get rid of his powers completely.

Before the Strucker’s get out of the lab while Noah is destroying all of Lauren’s blood samples, we learn that Lauren has two versions of the X gene in her, which is an effect from being one part of Fenris. Compared to the rest of the mutant underground, they had it easy.

Marcos is missing his baby girl, but John does not give him time to grieve. He wants to stop the Inner Circle now, because war between mutants and humans is starting, so they have to act now.

John was able to track down Regimen Technologies and with Clarice’s and Marcos help they kidnap Laurence Hayes.

As Clarice describes it “we are really living the dream of the X-Men”. I could not agree more. Three mutants want to stop a war in which thousands are involved. Not to mention that the kidnapping alone reminded me of a scene from a comedy movie.

John is desperate, I get it, but through it he is blinded and does not see that he may do something that leads into the wrong way. Not only does he accuse Clarice of cheating on him, but he also runs into Turners hands.

The episode could not end with a bigger cliffhanger: Turner now is leading the Purifiers and basically labels every mutant to be a terrorist. Reeva’s next step in her plan is to destroy Regimen Technologies servers which control the mutant restrain collars in the whole country. Now the uprising truly has started and a lot of angry mutants want to take revenge now. If violence can beat violence, we will see. Clarice left John and Marcos, Marcos ran away with Fade and John is captured by Turner. At the moment, it does not look good for either of them….

The Gifted returns on January 1, 2019

This 45 minute episode of The Gifted mostly follows Lorna and it was satisfying to finally get to know more of her past. It is the key episode I was looking forward to and I was not disappointed.

This time we do not only get one tiny flashback scene, but a bunch of them. We see Lorna and Marcos 7 months ago talking about being parents and how they want to be better parents to their child as their own have been. While Marcos tells the story how he wishes that the baby will be a girl, Lorna tells him the tiny bit of her father she knows about.

Being a bipolar girl with green hair far away from a big city, 13-year-old Lorna felt alone. Raised by her aunt, she does not know a single thing about herself. One day, her father left her a birthday present, a red disk which looks like the iconic helmet Magneto is wearing. That is when Lorna realises who she really is. If I remember correctly, at the end of Season 1, Lorna was not really sure about it. Now, it is confirmed, but it would be really nice to hear her speak his name out loud.

Lorna confesses that “the world hates him, but I hate him more”, but it turns out in the end that he did not abandon her, but it is quite the opposite. Her aunt hid her for him.

It is hard for a child to understand adults, but at some point they do. Lorna is exactly at this place right now. After what Rebecca did, killing over 30 people at the bank, mutants are hunted and Lorna has to make sure that Dawn is safe. Esme suggests hiding Dawn in a mutant school in Switzerland, which is no option to Lorna, she needs someone who she can trust.

Before bringing her little girl to that person, she proves that she is not all evil and on the Inner Circle’s side. She pays Marcos a visit so that he can say goodbye to his daughter. You can see his heart being torn apart between being full of love and being completely empty. How can he say goodbye to a child that he does not really had the chance to get to know her?

How can he give her back? #TheGifted @seanjteale @EmmaDumont pic.twitter.com/BZW5eLtuz4

Meanwhile, Kate and Lauren drive Reed to the doctor who once worked with his father on suppressing the X gene. She explains that not everyone’s power is a gift rather more a disability and that there is a possibility to receive a certain amount of drugs – like an insulin pump – which will make you control your powers. For the cure to work, she needs to test Lauren’s blood as well, because if they do not treat Reed, he will die.

I am not really on the same side with this statement, because I think if you train hard you will be able to control them just fine. Mutant powers are connected to your emotions and to your psyche. But what I would love to hear more about is what she knows about the Fenris twins, besides the fact that they share the same mind and dreams, of those we already know about.

The only couple left with no relationship issues have been Clarice and John. Well, that lies in the past. After watching the news, John wants to find out why the Inner Circle was in the bank.

For his own sake, Clarice joins him and they find Rebecca. John is hoping to receive information from her, that they are on the same side. He was not able to get a lot out of it just a name, to which John lies all his hope in. Clarice cannot deal with a Johnny who constantly wishes to redeem himself.

What can we expect to see in the episodes to come?

Lauren’s blood seems to hold the solution for all mutants to suppress their X gene forever. In connection to the fact that the doctor’s brother founded the Purifiers does make my stomach ache. Did not she talk about helping mutants to cope with their powers and not to get rid of them for good?

Clarice is able to see the twisted energy at places where Rebecca used her powers and she reacts terrible to it. Now that Rebecca got captured by Faint, maybe the fact that their powers work on a similar level can be of importance.

At the end, we go back to Lorna. She brought Dawn to her aunt and lets Marcos know that their daughter is safe and loved. But the most impressive moment was how Lorna formed her own version of Magneto’s helmet out of the red disk he gave her all those years ago.

I wanted them to be diverse. The whole underlying principal of the X-Men was to try to be an anti-bigotry story to show there’s good in every person. – Stan Lee

This week started with the sad news of Stan Lee passing away at the age of 95 and he is the man behind the X-Men, Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four, to only name a few.

On to this week’s episode, there is good in every person, and mutant. Undoubtedly, there is, but Reeva lost most of it 8 years ago when her friend was killed by human just because she was a mutant. This paved the way for the Reeva we knew now.

Before the show goes on a two week hiatus, the bank heist is taking place and we get to know the person with whom Reeva was texting—Quinn. He is working for Creed and he has to help the Circle to deactivate the mutant detector so that they can enter the bank. Reeva proves once more that she would do anything for here cause and even buries down her feelings for Quinn, because her people come first.

While Esme is taking care of Dawn back in HQ, the other two Frost sisters force the bank manager to make a statement of what they are doing and record it. Before that, if you have listened closely, you heard the word adamantium. Yes, the metal which is inside Wolverine is surrounding the safe. I have to say that I could not concentrate on the heist fully, because of Andy’s hair. Is he the lost third Carter brother? I mean, he totally looked like Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys back in the 90’s.

The mutant underground does not know of anything, because they have to take care of Reed. His powers just do not stop and he cannot control them at all. As Lauren say,s “We can’t keep running from what we are”, how about putting down your fear Reed and just accept your new self? It would definitely be better, as Kate’s plan to drive a couple of miles to a doctor who specialists on the X Gene to get rid of his powers. It is all about acceptance. There is nothing to be ashamed of, there is nothing wrong with you, you are great the way you are. That is what it is all about, remember? Could please someone finally say those words to him?

While preparing everything to move Reed from the apartment to the now abandoned clinic in which Kate used to work, Marcos is confronting Clarice about her loyalty to them. He oversaw that Clarice was close to Erg and that maybe she is hiding something from them.

Marcos asks John to question Clarice as well and when he confronts her, she confesses that she helped Erg and justifies it that he actually does something to help mutants and that she did it all mostly for him, John. Oh my poor Johnny.

I am sorry if I sound to you like a broken record, but here it is again. The voice in the movies is Charles, the voice in the show is Johnny. The voice of comfort, hope, and faith. People are losing faith, and like Charles, John does not know how to deal with the fact that everything he helped build is destroyed and that former friends, refugees, are calling for an uprising.

This uprising would only help the Purifiers, where Turner is about to meet their true leader, Benedict Ryan (played by Peter Gallagher best known for his role in OC California). He wants to put Turner into his show to blame Sentinel Services for not doing anything against the “terrorists”. No matter how this will end, this will not help to stop his divorce.

Now that we have to wait two weeks until a new episode airs, we can think about how Esme could be the key to bring down the Inner Circle. Lorna trusts her to take care of Dawn, which surprised me to be honest, and I have a feeling that she will change sites in the end.

And then there is the shocking end. While Lorna, Andy, and Rebecca are on their way to the safe, Rebecca mentions that she would kill all the bank employees. This, thank God, was not included into Reeva’s plan. They only want the money, nothing more.

After twisting the safe inside out, only thanks to Andy’s positive talking, Rebecca then decides to do what she wants and kills all the employees which have been locked up in the manager’s office. Thank you Rebecca, now no one will think that mutants are terrorists and we, the audience, would not want to know how Reeva will deal with her now.

FOX quickly included a little farewell to Stan Lee in the credits:

RIP #StanLee ending credits #TheGifted pic.twitter.com/hCMTZuuX2a

Lee appeared in dozens of Marvel movie adaptations, if not in person than through a picture. Coby Bell, who plays Agent Turner, mentioned once that the cameo he had in the pilot episode was a lucky accident. Lee happened to be in Dallas at the same time as show producers and they simply asked him and he agreed.

You can see that short scene in the video below:

I used to be embarrassed because I was just a comic-book writer while other people were building bridges or going on to medical careers. And then I began to realize: entertainment is one of the most important things in people’s lives. Without it they might go off the deep end. I feel that if you’re able to entertain people, you’re doing a good thing. – Stan Lee
