This book is everything a thriller novel needs to be. It’s a very convincing thriller that features an intriguing plot with believable details, while also being a fast paced political thriller that focuses on one of the biggest contemporary global crises, that is the growth of the huge numbers of refugees and immigrants.
The story kicks off with Casey, who’s an investigative journalist, as she overhears some very disturbing information and a story while in a nightclub. She decides to follow it up and so begins our journey with her on an investigation.
The author, Holly Watt, is excellent in her descriptions of the process of investigative journalism as she was a journalist herself. The pace of the story gets interesting as the story progresses, with moments that almost stop your heart as it takes some aggressive turns that blend well with the subject matter.
The character portrayal of Casey is commendable. She’s the most relatable character and how she struggles to balance her career with her private life is something that would make you identify with her. Her determination and passion often puts her in horrific and dangerous situations, but never will you find her doubting her motivations.
The mystery factor is maintained throughout the journey that takes you from London to Africa and the page turning quality with danger lurking in every corner is what keeps you hooked till the end. The story actually takes you places and you will surely fall in love with every place in this journey, since the way they are described is incredible.
