Quarantine is no joke—it’s there to keep us safe and healthy. However, it won’t be able to keep us from boredom and anxiety. So how about a little escapism through books? More specifically, through reading challenges?! Reading challenges can be a fun and productive way to spend our quarantine and not to mention that it will help us achieve our Goodreads goal! So, ready to spend your days reading?! Here are 10 reading challenges that can keep you busy this quarantine period!
1. The Nerd Daily 2020 Reading Challenge
Of course we start with our own! Our 2020 Reading Challenge consists of 52 challenges, so you could read a book a week. But of course, since some of you are totally amazing bookworms, you’re probably reading more than one book a week! Check out our challenge to see what books you could read this quarantine!
2. 12 Tropes of 2020 (Link removed due to website no longer active)
Anyone here who loves all kinds of tropes? This is your chance! Ally’s Appraisals made a reading challenge focusing on 11 tropes and one free choice of yours. You pick a trope every month, read a book in that category, and post about that book in the span of 2020. But hey, if you could read all 12 in the span of the quarantine, who’s stopping you?
3. The Audiobook Challenge
Hosted by Hot Listens and Caffeinated Reviewer, The Audiobook Challenge is perfect for those who love audiobooks! The goal is to outdo yourself by listening to more audiobooks in 2020 than you did last year. Or you could definitely use it to find a new love for audiobooks. Plus a giveaway will be posted twice during the year! How awesome is that?
4. 20 LGBTQ+ Books in 2020
This reading challenge is being hosted by yours truly! I wanted to read more queer books, know more different queer stories and celebrate them. Anyone can join in as well! All you need to do is read 20 LGBTQ+ books (or more if you can!) in different genres, with different tropes and LGBTQ+ representations. There’s a bingo card and reading template, too!
5. Year of the Asian Reading Challenge
The Quiet Pond plus three other bloggers are hosting this awesome reading challenge! The goal is to read as many books written by Asian authors as you can. Once you sign up for the Year of the Asian Reading Challenge, you can participate in monthly link-ups, giveaways, Twitter chats, and more! There are fun challenge levels to aim for, too!
6. Out of Your Comfort Zone
Not fond of a particular genre? Seems like the quarantine period is the perfect time to conquer your fears! Out of Your Comfort Zone is hosted by Bookcheshirecat and its aim is to read books that you consider to be outside of your comfort zone. You can simply pick out as many genres or age ranges that you want to read more of!
7. Beat the Backlist 2020
You have the opportunity to tackle your out-of-control TBR this quarantine. And that’s exactly the aim of NovelKnight’s Beat the Backlist 2020! You need to read books that are published in the previous year or earlier. Sign up and share your challenge TBR online! Oh, and to make it more fun, there are different teams and bingo cards, too!
8. Swords & Stars Reading Challenge
Alright, where are my fellow SFF fans?! Seems like the Swords & Stars Reading Challenge is perfect for us. The main purpose of this challenge is to celebrate the Science Fiction and Fantasy genres. The host, Ms. Nose in a book, created different categories/challenges and it’s up to us to read a book that fits each one.
9. 2020 Finishing the Series Reading Challenge
Who here is guilty of starting a series, but never finishes it? *raises hand* Welp. Maybe this reading challenge will help us! The 2020 Finishing the Series Reading Challenge by Celebrity Readers is encouraging everyone to finally finish those series that we’ve started but not yet completed.
10. Poetry Reading Challenge
Time to channel your poetic selves with this challenge! The Poetry Reading Challenge hosted by Savvy Verse and Wit encourages people to read more poetry in creative ways. You can poem-a-day through the Academy of American Poets Poem-a-Day service, read at least one book of poetry, or just read as many books of poetry as you can in a year!
These reading challenges will definitely keep you busy this quarantine. Now, you can have all the fun while you stay at home! Also, just remember to wash your hands and practice social distancing. Be safe, bookworms!
Thanks for mentioning the Savvy Verse & Wit Poetry Reading Challenge! We have fun every year! And we celebrate National Poetry Month all of April with fun activities to get those creative juices flowing!
