HBO’s limited series, The Outsider, is based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel of the same name, and comes from director and executive producer Jason Bateman.
Police detective Ralph Anderson sets out to investigate a seemingly straightforward case into the gruesome murder of 11-year-old Frankie Peterson found in the Georgia woods. The mysterious circumstances surrounding this horrifying crime leads Ralph, still grieving the recent death of his own son, to bring in unorthodox private investigator Holly Gibney, whose uncanny abilities he hopes will help explain the unexplainable.
The series stars Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline) plays Ralph Anderson, the “seasoned cop” who takes on the case. He’s joined by Cynthia Erivo (Bad Times At The El Royale) as private investigator Holly Gibney, Bill Camp (The Night Of) as Howie Gold, Mare Winningham (The Affair) as Jeannie Anderson, Paddy Considine (Informer) as Claude Bolton, Julianne Nicholson (Masters of Sex) as Glory Maitland, Yul Vázquez (Treme) as Yunis Sablo, Jeremy Bobb (Russian Doll) as Alec Pelley, Marc Menchaca (Ozark) as Jack Hoskins, Hettienne Park (Hannibal) as Tomika Collins, Michael Esper (Trust) as Bill Samuels, Derek Cecil (House of Cards) as Andy Katcavage, and Max Beesley (Strike Back) as Seale Bolton.
Jason Bateman (Ozark) and Andrew Bernstein will serve as both executive producers and directors, with Bateman tackling the first two episodes. Richard Price (The Night Of, The Deuce) and Dennis Lehane (Mystic River) are slated to write as well as executive produce. Additional producers are Bateman’s Aggregate Films (Ozark), Temple Hill Entertainment, Mendelsohn, executive producers Marty Bowen for Temple Hill Entertainment, Jack Bender (Lost), and Michael Costigan for Aggregate Films, with studio support from MRC (House of Cards, Counterpart).
The limited series premieres January 12th on HBO with 10 episodes.
