Well, HBO’s new high school set series, Euphoria, is certainly darker and more intense than others, perhaps even more so than Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why. The series sees singer and actor Zendaya’s teenage character, Rue, fresh out of rehab and making the same mistakes once more with the series tackling drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love, and friendship.
Euphoria is an American adaptation of an Israeli show of the same name, and it follows a group of high school students as they navigate love and friendships in a world of drugs, sex, trauma and social media, the series will be executive produced by Drake, along with manager Future the Prince.
Starring Zendaya (The Greatest Showman), Maude Apatow (Girls), Angus Cloud, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi (The Kissing Booth), Barbie Ferreira, Nika King, Storm Reid (A Wrinkle In Time), Hunter Schafer, Algee Smith, and Sydney Sweeney (Sharp Objects).
All episodes are written by Sam Levinson (Assassination Nation), who also serves as executive producer. The series will be produced in partnership with A24 (Lady Bird) and includes executive producers Ravi Nandan, Kevin Turen, Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein, Tmira Yardeni, Mirit Toovi, Yoram Mokadi and Gary Lennon. Ron Leshem and Daphna Levin, who created the Israeli series, are also executive produce.
Euphoria premieres June 16th on HBO with a total of 10 episodes in the season.
