Hit the highway with the first trailer for CHiPs, which debuted on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
CHiPs is an adaption of the NBC series of the same title, which aired in 1977. Dax Shepard and Michael Peña take on the roles of Jon Baker and Frank “Ponch” Poncharello. In fact, Shephard not only stars in the film, but he also wrote and directed it.
The film follows the adventures of two new California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers as they make their rounds on the freeways of Los Angeles. Shephard’s character Jon Baker joins the Patrol in order to save his marriage, with his on-screen wife played by his real wife Kristen Bell.
In an interview with EW, Shephard discussed his vision for the film. “My aim was somewhere in the Bad Boys, Lethal Weapon world,” he said. “That was my take on it. It’s interesting because it’s definitely a comedy, where the show is not, but the stakes are very real and the world is real and the physics are real and all those things are grounded. Insane situations happen but it’s not happening in a satire world or a heightened world. It’s a very real world.”
CHiPs also stars Kristen Bell, Ryan Hansen, Maya Rudolph, Vincent D’Onofrio and Adam Brody.
The film hits cinemas in March.
