Book Recommendations Based on Your Favourite Gilmore Girls Character

What’s better than binge watching Gilmore Girls and drinking delicious coffee or eating an array of foods and snacks? Perhaps you spend your days daydreaming of drinking a cup of joe at Luke’s, argue with Paris Geller about the best writers of the Beat Generation or letting yourself be talked into taking part in the Knitathon!

Well, we at The Nerd Daily want to make your life even more magical by recommending some fabulous reads based on your favourite Gilmore Girls character (yes, I know, it’s terrible to make you choose, I wouldn’t be able to, either) so go forth and read, booklovers. Make Rory Gilmore proud!

YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTER IS LORELAI GILMORE
You’re an avid coffee addict, can talk circles around anyone even in your sleep, and have (or aspire to) the kind of confidence that leaves people gaping at your ingenuity and quick wit. You enjoy reading books that keep you on your toes and make you have an emotional reaction – the story just has to be as unforgettable as people describe you to be.

Both Take a Hint, Dani Brown and Josh & Hazel’s Guide to Dating have protagonists that are laugh-out-loud funny, are ambitious and headstrong and most of all, do not, under any circumstances, compromise their personalities to fit someone else’s ideal. They are loud and proud and if you’re up for a romance with steam but also some of the sweetest (think Luke gifting Lorelai flowers) moments, then these two will make your heart soar!

YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTER IS RORY GILMORE
You have read all the greats – from Pushkin to Tolstoy, if it’s classic, chances are a copy of it is stowed somewhere in your room. You enjoy stories that are epic, that require you to keep your wits about you while reading and make you reevaluate your values and beliefs. Classic tales with a new twist are right up your alley.

A library situated in hell filled with all the unfinished stories people have started writing but never finished? A librarian who is sarcastic and is filled to the brim with competence, confidence and that certain je-ne-sais-quoi? Rory Gilmore would devour this. And on her bus rides to Hartford, she’d escape into Baker’s fantastical story about a boy and a girl who couldn’t be more different stumbling into a world where nothing is as it seems…

YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTER IS EMILY GILMORE
You like tradition and order and you like to fit in – whether that’s in the office or in your friends group. You also have a penchant for being the leader of activities and events. You have a natural talent for making people do what you expect of them. If you find the time to read, you want something that is in high esteem and possibly with dark wit that makes you cackle in secret. You also have a hidden love for musicals and are a believer in the one true love of your life.

Emily would sure love the messed-up family dynamics in The Magnificent Sons in which, even though they all love each other, brothers don’t know how to communicate and parents try their best to be supportive but end up making things awkward instead. And if that’s not up to Emily’s standards, then Bunny, a book following a cult of women at the top of their game might be just what she needs to relax.

YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTER IS RICHARD GILMORE
Ah, yes. The patriarch of the Gilmore clan, the man who adores reading about history and still can’t seem to get over mistakes made in the past. A dignified man who appreciates family values and taking responsibility.

If he’s your favourite character, chances are that you like dry humour, works that make you feel larger than life and tales of honour.

Both Circe and Children of Blood and Bone deal with family, honour and fighting for your humanity – perfect for Richard Gilmore.

YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTER IS JESS MARIANO

While you might be seen as a bit of a bad boy or a rebel, you’re a softie at heart who believes in true love, fighting for what and who you love and above all, making the scrappy life look ridiculously hot. You read anything from Jane Austen to Allen Ginsberg – as long as it keeps you invested, you are here for it.

If We Were Villains combines Shakespeare plays and murder mystery – chances are Jess would read this in class instead of paying attention. Vicious on the other hand, a book that tackles the question of what makes us human and why people have the hubris to think they can achieve immortality, would probably be the book Jess wouldn’t read in public because he might be planning his own attempts at making history…

YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTER IS LUKE DANES
You are outdoorsy and so, if you have to read a book instead of enjoy nature, it better be about nature. Or at least something about sports. Or, you know, just a book that is like Luke – steadfast, loyal and deserving of the description “wholesome grump”. You would also go to the ends of the earth for your loved ones and no sacrifice is too big to make sure that the people you care about are taken care of.

Undoubtedly, Luke would enjoy reading the quiet yet life-changing story about how a far a town would go to win a hockey trophy in Beartown, or read about the harsh conditions of growing up in the Bible belt in Zentner’s phenomenal tale of a boy who struggles with finding who he is when the past won’t let him go.

YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTER IS SOOKIE ST. JAMES

Let’s face it, Sookie is wholesome, heartwarming and her hugs are probably just as life-affirming as her incredible food.

If Sookie ever sat down to read instead of coming up with new and delicious creations that will make you salivate, she’d probably read a book about a young girl entering a cooking contest to make her grandmother proud or a story of a crumbling relationship that is revived when the guy does everything in his power to make his wife’s biggest dream – owning her own restaurant – come true.

YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTER IS LANE KIM
You are all about the music – you would sacrifice everything for it and there’s no one who knows more about the best and the worst music in the world than you. You like to snatch up the aux cord on any road trip and are all about educating your friends and family with fun facts about obscure musicians that they never knew they needed.

A slightly toxic relationship with your mother and the undying passion to be the best at playing the instrument that gives you life? A Thousand Perfect Notes combines these turbulent topics and will make you wonder how far you would go to keep the peace at home. Or perhaps you want to hear all about Daisy Jones and the Six and the tumultuous ways of how this dream band came together…and what tore them apart.

YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTER IS PARIS GELLER
It’s no secret that you are fierce AF, ambitious and determined to a fault. What you want, you get. You work hard and you don’t have time for people who will distract you from your goal. You love stories that are based on honour, moral fibre and integrity…and maybe a bit of revenge now and again.

Foul is Fair might be for you if you’re thirsting to take revenge on the people who have wronged you and want to make sure that they get what they deserve. Or, you can lose yourself in The Winner’s Curse and be faced with intrigues, drama, betrayal and keeping your wits about you even when it seems impossible.

YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTER IS KIRK

You’re the person who stands out in any room, who will try anything once just to see if it suits your tastes and while you may be a bit awkward at times, your heart’s also in the right spot.

You’d enjoy Charming as a Verb since it features a protagonist who is all about the side hustles that will make you give you that business boost you’re dreaming of or you can dive into Noah Can’t Even, where, well, Noah can’t even socially function correctly and yet still finds people who love and care for him as much as he does for them.
