This week’s episode of The Gifted starts up with another flashback, this time to London in 1952. Two mutants have been on the run for years and luckily, they’re powerful enough to escape their hunters by holding each other’s hands.
Returning to the present, Reed talks to his family about the information he discovered involving Trask Industries and how his father worked for them. As a family, they decide Reed needs to go talk to his father and Reed conveys this to Johnny, to which he agrees and says they will go that afternoon.
Lorna remains mad about Marcos working with Carmine, but she’s mostly mad about how much he enjoyed it, which causes her to have second thoughts about raising a baby in the life they have. Meanwhile, Dreamer goes and talks with Clarice to apologise, but Clarice makes it clear she is only there to defend her foster family.
A group of them are leaving to go pick up some injured refugees, except Lorna as she’s still mad at Marcos. Johnny finds that one of the mutants they’re rescuing has the same mark on his wrist as Pulse, and the two begin fighting until Johnny manages to get her on the ground. They safely get the mutants back to the underground and lock up the mutant who attacked Johnny, along with some others. This leads them to consider if they should stop taking in refugees, but they know they can’t.
Reed and Johnny prepare to leave to go talk to Reed’s father although Reed is unsure about doing it because of the relationship he has with his father, but he knows he must for the underground.
Clarice starts to get close to a little mutant girl named Nora, who is very shaken up about the rescue. Later, Nora starts to open up to Clarice and we find that Nora was part of the foster home that Clarice was in. Near the end of the episode, Clarice apologies to Dreamer about what she said and explains about the foster home and Nora. Clarice asks Dreamer if she will take the memories away from Nora and she does.
Another mutant girl named Esme (who is a telepath and another who they rescued) starts to open up to Caitlyn and even reads her mind, which reveals to us that Caitlyn is worrying about a lot more than she says she is.
Lorna and Dreamer can’t get the mutant girl to talk, so Lorna takes drastic measures until Marcos stops her causing them to fight about Marcos’s true loyalty. Lorna is mad that Marcos won’t do the same for the underground as he did for Carmine, but Marcos says that he wouldn’t be that dirty for this. They decide to get Caitlyn because they think she might be sick, resulting in Caitlyn wanting to treat her, even if Lorna and Marcos can’t agree. Later, they manage to drug the girl and tie her down to try and get her to talk.
When Reed visits his father, they start to argue because his dad doesn’t approve of what Reed is doing, until he finds out that Trask has something to do with it and his kids are mutants.
Auto Strucker (Reed’s dad) wants to know about the grandchildren his never met and he even asks about their powers. This causes him to come out with that “it came back and that he failed”. We learn that the people at the beginning of the episode were Auto’s parents and they had the same abilities that Lauren and Andy have. Reed finds out that together Lauren and Andy are very powerful and that his father is a mutant, but he ran from his parents and hid his powers, which brought him to Trask. Auto Strucker created an antidote and gave it to Reed when he was sick as a kid, which took away Reed’s powers.
The other mutants are mad that they took the mutant who attacked them at the rescue has been taken out of the cell, but Andy scares them off. Marcos, Lorna, Sage and Caitlyn find out who the mutant’s name is Chloe and we see she wants to talk, but something the Sentinel Services did has stopped her from doing so. Caitlyn gets Esme to read Chloe’s mind and we find out that Sentinel Services (more so Trask) has killed her family, and she then passes away. This strikes a nerve in Lorna and Marcos and they end up coming together, happy they have each other.
As Reed and his dad continue talking ,Johnny interrupts because Sentinel Services has shown up because Roderick Campbell has learned that they are having troubles finding their ‘asset’. Campbell injects Pulse with something and he gets ready to attack, but Reed’s dad sacrifices himself and goes downstairs to get them to leave.
Auto talks with Campbell, but Campbell still says he is going to search the place. Johnny tries to listen in, but can’t as Auto uses his powers, which eventually leads to his death. Pulse couldn’t even stop Auto and he was in range of the blast when Auto went off. Johnny finds Pulse was not controlled by the government, but he ends up dying as well. Later, Reed and Johnny bury Auto and Pulse in the woods and say their final goodbyes. When, they get back to the underground Reed doesn’t even have to tell his family what happened and as Caitlyn embraces him in a hug Andy and Lauren hold hands.
