Exclusive: ‘Down With This Ship’ by Katie Kingman Cover Reveal

We are thrilled to be revealing the cover for Katie Kingman’s debut novel Down With This Ship!

“Hello! I’m so excited to share with you the cover of my upcoming YA contemporary novel, DOWN WITH THIS SHIP! It will be released on June 8th, 2021 with Flux Books and I couldn’t be happier for you to read this geeky ode to fandom!

DOWN WITH THIS SHIP has rom-com vibes but with a major influx of drama. It’s about the ups and downs of shipping, or the practice of wanting two characters in your favorite fandom to be in a relationship. The main character, Kole, is constantly daydreaming about her one true pairing—Pippa & Byron—as seen cleverly worked into her doodles. It also features a snippet from her fanfiction on the tablet, drawn right from the fan fiction she writes. You’ll also find her glasses—a key piece in the narrative—and fanart from The Space Game, the show she’s obsessed with.

My favorite thing about this cover is the little easter eggs that worked their way unto it—and the enjoyment I hope readers will have when putting it all together. The colors couldn’t be more fun and light-hearted, just what I hope readers will get from this book. I hope you like it as much as me, and happy reading!”

Synopsis:
Kole Miller is the best writer at the prestigious Crystal Lake High. But no one knows it—not her creative writing classmates, or even her academic arch nemesis Colin (aka Mr. Valedictorian). That’s because Kole’s best work is a secret fanfic based on The Space Game, her favorite show.

When Kole’s fanfic wins a major contest, her readership skyrockets. Suddenly, Kole finds herself stuck in the heated ship wars, as her new readers pair characters from the show together as romantic couples. Worse yet, Kole’s classmates discover that she’s the fanfic’s author. Now it isn’t just The Space Game everyone is arguing about: they start shipping Kole with her classmates.

With her romantic life in shambles and her anxiety through the roof, Kole must face both her inner demons and the ones at her school. She has one chance to reclaim her fanfic—and the guy that Kole now realizes she’s shipped herself with since episode one of the school year.
