We chat with author Lucy Eden about Love In Bloom, which is a cheeky, small-town romantic comedy about finding yourself in the weeds . . . only to find love, too.
Hi, Lucy! Can you tell our readers a bit about yourself?
I’m a multihyphenate with ADHD and an unapologetic bibliophile! I love keeping busy which isn’t hard with two kids, four cats and turtle. I live and work in Brooklyn, NY.
When did you first discover your love for writing and stories?
I’ve always loved stories. My mother taught me to read when I was four and have been obsessed with books ever since. I have an active imagination and combined that with my love for stories, you get the perfect recipe for a romance author. My love of writing was cultivated by my middle school English teacher. I dedicate every book to the two women who’ve inspired me so much.
Quick lightning round! Tell us:
- The first book you ever remember reading: The People Could Fly
- The one that made you want to become an author: There isn’t a specific book that comes to mind
- The one that you can’t stop thinking about: Sinner by Sierra Simone
Your latest novel, Love in Bloom, is out now! If you could only describe it in five words, what would they be?
Funny, Dramatic, Steamy, Cozy & Inspiring
What can readers expect?
Readers can expect to laugh, cry and really invested in Emma & Dan’s love story as well as Emma growth as a person
Where did the inspiration for Love in Bloom come from?
I’ve always been inspired the use of medical marijuana to treat illness. When I was offered the opportunity to take such a serious subject and put a humorous spin on it while bringing awareness, I jumped at the chance.
Were there any moments or characters you really enjoyed writing or exploring?
I loved writing Emma, clearly since the book is in her point of view but every character in the book has a special place in my heart. My goal when writing is to make every character as real and three dimensional as possible, so it would be really hard to pick just one.
If I had to pick a favorite moment, that would be equally as hard, but I really loved Dan & Emma’s shower scene. It felt very real, natural and emotional, not to mention funny. It’s a great snapshot of their emotional dynamic and illustrates why they’re such a great couple!
What do you love about the romance genre?
The romance genre spans so many different subgenres, it never gets boring. Another reason why I love it so much, to quote fellow romance author, Celestine Martin, “romance is the genre of hope.” No matter what the characters encounter or what path the story takes, you know the journey always results in a happy ending that gives me and the millions of other readers curling up with romance books comfort.
What’s next for you?
I’m currently working on the second draft of my next book, due to publish next year.
Lastly, what books have you enjoyed this year and are there any that you can’t wait to get your hands on?
That is such a loaded question because I read A LOT of books! I will never say no to a book written by Celestine Martin, Katee Robert, Kennedy Ryan, Karina Halle or Sierra Simone.
Nice post!
