Back in 2004, J.J Abrams, Damon Lindelof, and Jeffrey Liebher bought us LOST, the award-winning supernatural sci-fi show following the lives of a large group of passengers after their flight Oceanic 815 crashed onto an island. The show was packed full of so much mystery and mythology and spawned many fan theories throughout the years. LOST ended on May 23rd 2010 which means its been 10 years since the finale! If you’ve ever watched the show, perhaps you’d like to take a trip down memory lane. If you haven’t, you can catch all 6 seasons on Amazon Prime or Hulu and you will even spot familiar faces such as Ian Somerhalder (The Vampire Diaries), Emilie De Ravin (Once Upon a Time), Henry Ian Cusick (The 100), Evangeline Lilly (Ant-Man), Daniel Dae Kim (Hawaii Five-0), and Dominic Monaghan (The Lord of the Rings).
Read on for my list of OMG moments, the times when the show really made us wonder just what on EARTH we were watching. If you haven’t watched the show yet, then I suggest you stop reading and go and get comfy in front of the TV instead! Nothing compares like watching for the first time.
Naturally, spoilers ahead!
The Polar Bear!
In the second half of the pilot episode, we first got a taste for some of the more strange, unexplained goings-on and realised that this wasn’t just a tropical island. What’s a polar bear doing there?
A Bit of Artz
Don’t lie, this moment from season one made us ALL jump. The scene with the dynamite blew us away. And Artz.
John Locke and The Hatch
You can’t talk about LOST without mentioning John Locke (played by Terry O’Quinn). One of my favourite moments is in season one where Locke has been waiting for a sign from the island and trying to open the hatch for weeks. Then one night, after banging desperately and shouting “I did everything you asked”, a light turns on. Oooooh!
A Four-Toed Statue?
In Season 2, some of the islanders happen across the remains of a statue. As Sayid (Naveen Andrews) puts it “I don’t know what is more disquieting – the fact that the rest of the statue missing, or that it has four toes.”
We Have To Go Back!
In a shocking twist for the audience in the season three finale, it is revealed that they have been seeing Jack in flashfowards the whole time, not the usual flashbacks we’d become accustomed to. Jack (Matthew Fox) spent all that time wanting to leave the island, now he wants to go back?
Not Penny’s Boat
I think all of us would agree, one of the saddest moments of the show was Charlie’s sacrifice, but it was also a great OMG moment. The season three finale went HARD!
The Constant
The show dared to enter the messy realm of time travel in season 4, episode 5. This was an important episode and was very cleverly done. The Constant is a real fan favourite, and I loved the character of Daniel Faraday (played by Jeremy Davies). The episode is also home to the BEST phonecall between Desmond and Penny. Did you know that TIME magazine named The Constant the best television episode of 2008?
The Island Moves
What a way to end a season. The writers really liked each season to go out in style. In Season 4, the Island actually vanishes from view after Ben (Michael Emerson) turns a mysterious large wheel. I remember this being a real what the!? moment.
Jacob Revealed
You’d been hearing of the elusive Jacob for nearly five seasons and beginning to wonder if he even exists, then in episode 17 of season five, there he is. Casually having a conversation on the beach. Tell us what’s going on Jacob?
The Numbers
It all comes back to the numbers. That would require an article in itself right? The numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 appear EVERYWHERE throughout all seasons of LOST. In Season six, they are found on a cave wall with the characters names beside them, suggesting them as candidates to protect the island.
