What To Watch: Top Movies and TV Shows Picks for August 2022

A new month is in full swing, so here are some of the most promising new movies and television shows to look out for and enjoy this August!

Bullet Train

David Leitch’s Bullet Train follows Ladybug (Brad Pitt), an unlucky assassin whose latest mission puts him on a collision course with lethal adversaries from across the globe. When they all end up aboard the same fast moving bullet train, they discover their missions are not unrelated. The ensemble cast is packed full of big names; Pitt stars alongside Sandra Bullock, Joey King, Karen Fukuhara, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Brian Tyree Henry, among others.

The Sandman
Netflix Series, Out Now

In the Netflix adaption of Neil’s Gaiman’s popular DC comic-book series, Dream (a.k.a. Morpheus) sets out to find his lost equipment and reclaim his power after years of imprisonment by a mortal wizard. The all-star cast includes Tom Sturridge (Sweetbitter) in the leading role, along with Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) as Lucifer, Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) as Johanna Constantine, Boyd Holbrook (Logan) as The Corinthian, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Killing EveCruella) as Death.

Locke and Key Season 3
Netflix Series, Out Now

After season 2 ended with a cliffhanger, season 3 will bring the story of siblings Tyler Locke (Connor Jessup), Kinsey Locke (Emilia Jones), and Bode Locke (Jackson Robert Scott) to its close. The popular paranormal tale will wrap up in eight episodes as the Lockes, armed with their magical reality-bending keys, face their greatest threat yet.

I Am Groot
Disney+ Series, Out Now

A spin-off of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies, I Am Groot is a collection of five original shorts starring Baby Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) as a little sapling. The show is also set to feature several new and unusual characters.

Never Have I Ever Season 3

The next season of Mindy Kaling’s Never Have I Ever promises more drama in the life of Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) as she navigates teenage-hood, the pressures of being a first-generation American, and the loss of her father. Though she’s now in a relationship with the boy of her dreams, the trailers tease that it’s not all smooth-sailing ahead for Devi; she soon discovers that dating someone isn’t enough to solve all of her problems.

Starring Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Brandon Perea, and Michael Wincott, Jordan Peele’s epic modern-horror Nope follows two siblings who run a California horse ranch as they discover something sinister and otherworldly in the skies.

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law
Disney+ Series, Out August 17

In Marvel’s She-Hulk, Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) navigates life as a single, 30-something attorney who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk. An action-comedy, the trailers tease some fourth wall breaking, and lots of super-powered shenanigans. Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/ The Hulk stars alongside Maslany, and Wong (Benedict Wong), Abomination (Tim Roth), and Daredevil (Charlie Cox) are also set to appear.

Andor
Disney+ Series, Out August 31

The next Star Wars show Andor follows Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), as he embarks on a path that is destined to turn him into a Rebel hero. A prequel to the 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, where Cassian made his first on-screen appearance, the show is set in an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue.
